Element5 is seeking a Manufacturing Designer to play a critical role in translating building designs into optimized manufacturing and installation plans. This position is responsible for nesting mass timber building models, ensuring efficient material utilization, and supporting seamless production, logistics, and on-site installation sequencing. The successful candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, and Operations teams to drive efficiency, reduce waste, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This position is a fixed-term contract from May 1, 2026, to December 30, 2026.Key Responsibilities:Develop, standardize, and maintain manufacturing design policies, procedures, and best practices.Optimize billet sizing and panel layouts to align with press capacity while minimizing material waste and maximizing yield.Create and refine 3D models, shop drawings, and manufacturing packages using CAD tools such as Dietrichs, SolidWorks, Rhino, and Grasshopper.Plan and sequence production and shipping logistics to support efficient installation on-site.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure constructability, manufacturability, and operational efficiency.Support and contribute to CAD automation initiatives, including parametric design and workflow optimization.Identify opportunities for continuous improvement related to safety, quality, and production efficiency.Troubleshoot design and manufacturing challenges, providing practical and timely solutions.Qualifications & Skills:Proven experience with Rhino, Grasshopper, and SolidWorks; experience with Dietrichs is considered an asset.Strong technical design capabilities, with the ability to take projects from concept through to manufacturing execution.Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, material optimization, and production workflows.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.Highly detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.Self-motivated, resilient, and adaptable in a fast-paced, evolving environment.Demonstrated interest in sustainability and environmentally responsible design.Education & Experience:Engineering degree or diploma (or equivalent technical education).Minimum of 2 years of experience in CAD-based design, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or mass timber environments.Experience with parametric or computational design is an asset.Working Conditions:Primarily office-based, with flexibility to support hybrid work arrangements where operationally feasible.Occasional collaboration with production teams on the plant floor.What we offer:Competitive compensation and performance-based incentivesComprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage)RRSP matching program to support long-term financial wellnessOpportunities for career growth and advancement in a rapidly expanding companyCollaborative, people-first culture focused on innovation and continuous improvementExposure to cutting-edge technology and sustainable building practicesElement5 is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible workplace in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
