Job Description

Overview As members of the Canadian Army, Signals Officers lead the delivery and sustainment of innovative, missioncritical digital networks and telecommunications systems that enable Canadian Armed Forces operations, especially across the Land and Cyber domains.They are experts in applying advanced technologies to solve complex military challenges, leading communications and information systems organizations, managing highly skilled personnel, and overseeing the integration and employment of digital capabilities in support of combat and operational missions. Capabilities Communications and Information Systems Support Enable the deployment, integration, and sustainment of secure digital networks, telecommunications, and tactical radio systems in direct support of combat operations. Electromagnetic Warfare Plan and execute electromagnetic operations to detect, disrupt, and exploit adversary systems that use the electromagnetic spectrum, and protect the Armys use of the spectrum to deliver technological advantage on the battlefield. Capability Development and Digital Systems Engineering Design, build, and integrate nextgeneration digital capabilities in support of Army operations, including advanced communications and information technologies, software applications, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems. Network and Cyber Operations Lead the planning, operation, monitoring, and defence of resilient digital networks, ensuring secure, reliable, and continuous communications in contested and cyberthreat environments. Work Environment Signals Officers work in all climates, environments, and circumstances, from officelike settings on a base or garrison to service with an operational Army unit, both in Canada and on overseas deployments that may involve combat. They may be deployed overseas on operations or posted to an international headquarters or to an exchange or liaison assignment in an allied nation. Entry Plans Direct Entry Options Paid Education Options If you already have a university degree, the CAF will decide if your academic program matches the criteria for this job and may place you directly into the required onthejob training program following basic training. Basic training and military officer qualification training are required before being assigned. Training After enrolment, you start basic officer training at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in SaintJeansurRichelieu, Quebec, for 12 weeks. Topics covered include general military knowledge, principles of leadership, regulations and customs of the Forces, basic weapons handling, and first aid. Physical fitness is an integral part of this training. Following basic officer training, official second language training may be offered, lasting from two to nine months depending on proficiency. Signals Officers then attend the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics in Kingston, Ontario, where they learn the skills required to supervise and lead a Troop in tactical operations in the field, with an emphasis on leadership, administration, and advanced theory of communications and electronics. Afterward, you continue training at the Infantry School at the Combat Training Centre in Gagetown, New Brunswick, to build upon leadership training and learn combatarms skills. PartTime Options This position is available for parttime employment with the Primary Reserve at certain locations across Canada. Reserve Force members usually serve part time at an Army Base or armoury in their community, may serve while attending school or working a civilian job, and are paid during training. They are not required to relocate but may volunteer for deployment on a military mission within or outside Canada. Qualifications Applicants must hold or be enrolled for a university degree. Successful recruits are required to complete basic training and military officer qualification training. Candidates may be selected for the Royal Military College System if a bachelors degree is required. Physical fitness and proficiency in a second language are essential. #J-18808-Ljbffr
