Position Details Selection Process Number: 26-DND-EA-CCG-669552 Locations: St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador; Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Salary: $84,171 to $95,704 Level: GT-05 Eligibility: Persons residing in Canada, and Canadian citizens and Permanent residents abroad. Duties The Regional Operations Centres (ROC) are 24/7 multifunctional centres which provide support to all Canadian Coast Guard programs. The ROC Officers are responsible for the planning, deployment and tracking of all resources (vessels, aircraft, vehicles, equipment) in support of senior regional management and external clients, and to facilitate the delivery of Coast Guard, Science, Fisheries Conservation and Protection, RCMP, and OGD programs and services. Maintain emergency preparedness, readiness and initial response leadership for the ROC Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). Work Environment The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of National Defence (DND). We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canadas marine environment. We support Canadas economic growth through the safe and efficient movement of maritime trade. We help to ensure our countrys sovereignty and security through our presence in Canadian waters. The CCG proudly serves 243,000 kilometres of Canadas vast and rugged coastline, the longest coastline of any given country, and is one of the few federal agencies that provides direct, frontline services 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Intent of the Process To create a prequalified pool of GT-05 candidates to staff vacancies in the Regional Operations Centre. Tenures may vary. Operational Requirements Occasional travel Work overtime, sometimes on short notice Variable schedule to assure a 24/7 service Qualifications (Essential) Education: Secondary school diploma or higher; or acceptable combination of education, training and experience; or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative; or appointed/deployed for an indeterminate period to a GT position. Occupational Certification: Transport Canada or CCG certificate of competency (Navigation watchkeeping mate, Engineering 4th class) or a Defence marine certificate validated by TC. Knowledge (Applied/assessed later) Knowledge of Canadian Coast Guard programs and services. Abilities (Applied/assessed later) Interpret Standard Operating Procedures. Produce briefings to diverse audiences using presentation programs (PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, etc.). Effective written communication. Effective oral communication. Additional Asset Requirements (Applied/assessed later) Diploma or degree from a postsecondary institution relevant to duties. Higher level certification above watchkeeping mate or 4th class engineering. Management experience (direct personnel, financial, or marine operations); five or more years seagoing; two or more years shorebased marine industry; two or more years marine operations centre experience.
