The Hazardous Waste Technical Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing hazardous waste programs and initiatives within the Saskatoon Hazardous Waste Transfer Facility, overseeing the safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of dangerous materials, and ensuring compliance with federal and provincial regulations. We are ideally seeking an individual with a diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field with diverse technical skills (i.e. analytical reviews, project management, client service, communications, business development). This is a both a facility and field-based position, and you will be expected to work both independently and within project groups, undertaking tasks from start to finish with full team support. The successful candidate will be involved in business development, proposal preparation, managing and coordinating, client communications, and preparation of reports. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Key responsibilities include the following: Ensure all operations comply with provincial and federal regulations regarding hazardous waste handling, transportation, receiving and disposal. Assist in the development, implementation, management and training of environmental policies, procedures and techniques to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations. Actively manage and monitor the hazardous waste storage facility and maintain comprehensive inventories of hazardous materials and waste. Prepare documentation for both storage reports and transportation documents. Perform and lead all lab packing and packaging of waste materials at client sites and within the facility. This includes bulking and neutralizing of materials, repacking waste, identifying and segregation of waste classes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into business operations and decision-making processes. Project management (budget, scope, etc.) Report reviews QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KEY COMPETENCIES Education/ Experience: Technical diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry or related field 3-5 years of experience in the hazardous waste management industry. Previous certifications such as HAZWOPER, TDG, WHMIS, are considered assets. Proven experience in handling hazardous chemicals and working with waste management systems, often specifically in industrial or municipal environments. Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and standards, and understanding of Safety Data Sheets, SDS. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze data and generate reports. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HOURS OF SERVICE This role will function in both field and office settings as dictated by the needs of the business and may fluctuate. This position may be required to respond without notice to support major incidents/events in Canada either via telephone or in person. This position will not be included in the regional on call roster, however as a management role it is expected that the individual will be materially available to personally provide a safe and effective level of supervision and instruction to all subordinate positions for all work being performed, or to adequately supply an equivalent level of supervision and instruction through delegation for periods of unavailability.
