Job Description

EstimatorOur client is a well-established construction firm is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team and support continued growth.The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects. This role manages the full estimating lifecycle, including quantity take-offs, subcontractor pricing, bid coordination, and cost analysis.You will work closely with Senior Estimators, Project Managers, and Preconstruction leadership to develop budgets, identify risks, and support successful project delivery from pursuit through to handoff.Key ResponsibilitiesComplete detailed quantity take-offs for labour, materials, and equipmentDevelop and maintain unit pricing, productivity rates, and cost databasesPrepare preliminary budgets, schematic estimates, and detailed cost breakdownsAnalyze drawings and specifications to fully understand scope requirementsIdentify risks, gaps, and opportunities, incorporating appropriate contingenciesManage the full bid process, including coordination and documentationReview contracts and supplementary documentsOrganize tender documents, drawings, and addendaLead bid closings and assemble final submission packagesEnsure all inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions are clearly documentedIncorporate RFIs, clarifications, and addenda into final pricingSolicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotationsPrepare detailed comparison sheets to identify scope coverage, gaps, and overlapsNegotiate pricing and scope alignment with trade partnersBuild and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliersCollaborate with internal teams to align estimates with project strategyParticipate in design development reviews and value engineering initiativesSupport project handoff, including scope clarification and budget alignmentContribute to continuous improvement and lessons learnedRequired Qualifications & ExperienceDiploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or a related field35 years of estimating experience within a general contracting environmentExperience across commercial, industrial, or institutional construction projectsStrong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specificationsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft ExcelExperience with estimating and take-off softwareFamiliarity with project management platforms (e.g., Fieldwire) is an assetSolid understanding of construction methods, contracts (e.g., CCDC), and trade practicesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detailEffective communication and negotiation abilitiesStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to manage multiple estimates in a deadline-driven environmentProactive, team-oriented, and accountable mindsetWe are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
