Job Title: Crown Prosecutor, Medicine Hat Requisition ID: 82632 | Ministry: Justice | Location: Medicine Hat | Work Hours: 36.25 per week | Full Time Salary ranges: Crown Prosecutor 1 ($3,947.31$4,972.47 bi-weekly), Crown Prosecutor 2 ($5,593.60$6,926.96 bi-weekly), Crown Prosecutor 3 ($7,450.08$8,260.75 bi-weekly). Responsibilities Bail hearings, charge screening, early case resolution, and alternative measures. Deciding whether to proceed to trial or discontinue a prosecution. Conducting all prosecutions, entering stays of proceedings, withdrawing charges, and plea resolutions. Providing disclosure and drafting legal opinions, briefings, and court documents. Electing to proceed summarily or by indictment, taking positions on sentences, and launching appeals. Working with victims, witnesses, police, and other stakeholders in the justice system. Key Accountabilities Serve the public interest and achieve just outcomes. Provide courts with fair, accurate, and complete evidence and legal arguments. Prosecute serious and complex cases with the highest level of competence. Support victims of crimes and their families throughout the legal process. Qualifications A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership or immediate eligibility for membership with the Law Society of Alberta is required. Crown Prosecutor 1: minimum 14 years legal experience. Crown Prosecutor 2: minimum 4 years legal experience. Crown Prosecutor 3: minimum 11 years legal experience. Other Requirements For law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required. A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License and travel within the province is required. A minimum of one year of call to the bar and relevant legal experience is required. Experience in criminal litigation is an asset. Benefits Earned day off per month for excess hours worked. Potential relocation expenses up to $10,000.
