Responsibilities Provide comprehensive midwifery care to childbearing women, babies and families in the community and the region. Practice in compliance with the Health/Midwifery Act and integrate into the midwifery-led maternity care programs philosophy and objectives. Be a member of the primary health care team and contribute to healthy pregnancies, safe births and healthy beginnings for mothers and babies. As the primary health care provider, deliver services within the professions scope of practice using an evidence-based approach. Operate as a credentialed practitioner integrated into accountability structures based on legislation, regulations, accreditation guidelines and policies/procedures. Qualifications Midwifery Diploma from Nunavut Arctic College or equivalent, and registration with the Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee or with a recognized midwifery body and registration with the Nunavut Midwifery Registration Committee, or graduate from a recognized program with equivalent credentials and registration as applicable in the province/territory. A minimum of two (2) years post-registration experience is required; candidates with one year post-registration experience may be considered with supervision for one year per Nunavut Registration Requirements. Equivalencies will be considered for NAC midwifery graduates. ST.A.B.L.E. or ACoRN course is considered an asset and should be obtained within the first year of employment. Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances and professional registrations. Ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavuts official languages is an asset; knowledge of Inuit communities, culture and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is beneficial.
