Job Description

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager fosters a safe, supportive workplace for all team members. This role develops, implements, and oversees safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including the Workers Compensation Act, while helping prevent workplace incidents. Responsibilities include risk assessments, safety audits, training, and incident investigations to support a safe, productive work environment. Working with the Risk Management Division and Employee Experience, the OHS Manager supports the workers compensation program and oversees WorkSafeBC compliance. The role also coordinates safety training and leads the annual COR certification audit, ensuring strong safety standards across Cypress Mountain operations. Key Responsibilities & Functions Compliance & Strategy Interprets OHS legislation to create, maintain, and enforce safety policies and procedures. Monitors compliance with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction). Manages COR (Certificate of Recognition) audit processes. Training & Education Delivers in-house training on safety, risks, and emergency procedures to the Cypress team. Maintains/Manages the LMS Learning Management System. Audits progress for all staff presents information to Leadership team. Risk Management Manages workplace inspection program with Department Heads, hazard assessments, and internal audits to identify risks. Oversee other Safety/Risk management departments Dispatch, Slope Safety. Incident Investigation Supports on incident Investigations, injuries, and health complaints (e.g. indoor air quality, violence) and make prevention recommendations. Collaboration, Communication & Reporting Acts as a liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g. WorkSafeBC), management, and team members. Statistical analysis of annual worker accidents /incidents including upkeep of Organizations Safety Improvement Plan. Work closely with other departments to integrate OH&S into daily operations. Communicate regularly with leadership team on OH&S related matters. Represent Cypress Mountain in industry forums and collaborate with external stakeholders. Qualifications / Competencies Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills for managing risks and coaching teams. Time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask in fast-paced environments. Strong knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices. Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant risk management software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving and decision-making skills. Adaptable to work effectively in a diverse and ever-changing working environment. Ski industry experience an asset. Education and Experience 3+ years of experience in Health and Safety. College diploma, or Bachelors degree in occupational health, environmental health, or related field. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Legally able to work in Canada. Valid B.C. drivers license w/insured and reliable vehicle for travel to and from the mountain. Any applicable safety training is an asset (i.e. WHMIS, Fall protection, WorkSafeBC training) Wage / Benefits Salary: $60,000 -75,000 (DOE) Competitive benefits package including RRSP matching.
