Current Openings: 1 Role Summary Element5 is seeking a Mass Timber Structural Designer to support the structural design and detailing of our mass timber projects. Working with senior engineering staff, youll develop efficient, buildable, and code-compliant designs that align with our CLT and Glulam production processes. Youll also contribute to internal tools and standards that drive innovation and performance across a range of projects, from mid-rise residential and commercial buildings to institutional developments. In this role you will be working closely with engineers, architects, contractors, and clients. Responsibilities & Duties Perform structural design and detailing of mass timber structures. Develop prototypes and build profiles to support design innovation. Create and refine internal design tools, templates, and resources. Balance customization and standardization within project designs, focusing on product-based design approaches. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure structural designs align with manufacturing and assembly requirements. Address client inquiries with professionalism, providing technical guidance and ensuring project alignment. Contribute to the integration of sustainable design practices consistent with Element5s environmental and sustainability values. Perform other related duties as assigned by management to support departmental and organizational goals. Professional Qualifications & Core Competencies Knowledge of CLT and Glulam design, with experience applying North American Codes and Standards. Proficient in gravity and lateral design of structures in accordance with Canadian and U.S. Codes and Standards. Experienced in lateral system design, including wind and seismic (static and dynamic) analyses for multi-storey structures. Skilled in structural analysis and modeling software (e.g., WoodWorks Sizer, RFEM, Excel). Working knowledge of BIM and CAD systems; experience with Revit, Rhino, SolidWorks, or other parametric modeling tools is considered an asset. Collaborative team player who works effectively across functions to align design, production, and client needs. Detail-oriented and professional communicator, providing clear, thoughtful responses and technical solutions. Adaptable to a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Proactive and solutions-focused, with a strong sense of initiative in addressing technical and process challenges. Education & Experience Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering; masters or PhD is considered an asset. Minimum 02 years of experience in structural design; additional experience is an asset.
