Program Description: Community Mental Health Program Community Mental Health services provide support in all settings including: hospitals, clients'' homes, shelters, and community residence. This program enables individuals to receive specialized services while supporting community providers with education and consultation. The program operates through eight specialized teams based out of Carlingwood Shopping Centre in Ottawa. Qualifications Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing; Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice. Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation. CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years. Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required. Commitment to ongoing professional development. Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding. Requires vehicle for work purposes. Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients. Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team. Basic computer skills required. English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading and writing. Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset. Preferred Qualifications Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Experience working with persons with Dual Diagnosis (Intellectual Disability and Psychiatric Illness). Community Mental Health Experience. Knowledge of major mental illness from a bio-psychosocial perspective and experience in applying the psychosocial principles of rehabilitation and case management.
