Location Multiple CYFS - Newmarket, ON CA (Primary) Job Description Reporting to the Chief Fire Prevention Officer, this position will provide varied services for the Towns of Aurora and Newmarket in conjunction with the Stay Fire Smart Campaign, including: Providing in-house service which includes advice to the public on the locations of existing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and the inspection and cleaning of same; Supplying and changing of smoke alarm batteries and supplying and installing an initial or second smoke alarm; Supplying and installing 9-1-1 stickers; Provision of general fire safety literature and coordinating and conducting smoke alarm, carbon monoxide safety and promoting fire prevention educational campaigns throughout the communities. Job Requirements Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from a formal post-secondary institution in a recognized fire protection studies program, along with past volunteer experience such as Fire Department Open House or Fire Prevention Week volunteer. Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Ontario Fire Code or CAN/ULC Smoke Alarm Standards, Occupational Health and Safety. Knowledge of smoke alarm installation standards. A valid Ontario Class G Drivers License in good standing; required to drive a Town vehicle. Ability to work in a team and independently with little supervision and in a safe manner. Good organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Ability to deal professionally and courteously with the public. Ability to use initiative to create and promote Fire Safety material. Ability to use Fire Department software to complete residential fire safety visits and conduct fire safety surveys. Standard 1st Aid and CPR-C would be an asset. Ability to work a flexible work week, including shifts and weekends as required (work shift is Tuesday - Saturday, i.e., Farmer''s Markets, and other events on Saturday).
