Job Description

ABOUT CARBON UPCYCLING TECHNOLOGIES Carbon Upcycling Technologies (CUT) is a Calgary-based CleanTech company on a mission to transform the cement and supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) industry. We have developed a breakthrough process that upcycles CO and industrial waste streams into high-performance SCMs reducing the embodied carbon of concrete while improving material performance. As one of the most innovative companies in the global decarbonization space, CUT is advancing from laboratory science to commercial deployment. You will join a passionate, multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of materials science, process engineering, and climate impact. WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT This isn''t your typical desk internship. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at CUT, you will: Work on a First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) commercial plant project a rare opportunity to contribute to technology that has never been built at scale before. Gain handson experience in plant commissioning, an in-demand skill set that takes most engineers years to develop. Directly contribute to climate action by helping decarbonize one of the world''s most carbonintensive industries cement production accounts for ~8% of global CO emissions. Build technical experience across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility to physical testing. Work alongside experienced engineers in a fastpaced, missiondriven startup environment where your contributions will be visible and impactful. INTERNSHIP/CO-OP DURATION May 1, 2026 August 31, 2026 WHAT YOU''LL WORK ON Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will support a range of highimpact engineering activities: Plant Commissioning Support Assist in preparing and executing commissioning plans for CUT''s commercialscale FOAK plant. Support development of P&IDs, equipment lists, and commissioning documentation. Coordinate with vendors and contractors to track equipment specifications and delivery timelines. Troubleshoot mechanical systems and document lessons learned during commissioning activities. New Plant Feasibility Studies Contribute to mechanical engineering assessments for nextgeneration plant designs. Assist in developing mass and energy balance models to evaluate process configurations. Research and evaluate equipment options, generating technical comparisons and cost inputs. Support the preparation of feasibility study reports and engineering deliverables. Support the design, buildout, and operation of mediumscale test rigs and pilot equipment. Assist in drafting mechanical drawings and equipment layouts. Help develop and execute test protocols, and compile data for engineering review. Test, operate, and instruct our operations team on the operation of new equipment. Maintain and improve test facility documentation, including SOPs and maintenance logs. WHAT YOU BRING Required: Currently enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year of a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program (or equivalent). Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and machine design. Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent). Excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, startup environment. Nice to Have: Participation in the Technical Society Teams for car, solar, concrete toboggan, airplane or other. Experience with welding, fabrication, car repairs, farm wrenching or similar experience. Prior coop or internship experience in an industrial, process, or manufacturing environment. Familiarity with process engineering concepts (P&IDs, HAZOP, PFDs). Interest or coursework in sustainability, lowcarbon technology, or materials science. Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, Python, MATLAB). THE BIGGER PICTURE The cement industry produces approximately 4 billion tonnes of CO annually. CUT''s technology has the potential to displace millions of tonnes of clinker with COsequestering SCMs and the work you do this summer will directly advance that mission. You''ll leave this internship with a deep understanding of industrial decarbonization, handson commissioning and process engineering skills, and a meaningful contribution to a cleaner planet on your rsum.
