About the Position The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta is seeking a fulltime tenuretrack Assistant or Associate Professor in cybersecurity. Applicants should have research expertise in applied information security across software, systems, hardware, and AI/agentic systems, including but not limited to system security, hardware security, secure architectures, embedded and IoT security, postquantum cryptography, cyberphysical systems, humancentric security, zerotrust systems, and digital sovereignty. Responsibilities Teaching (40%): Participate in classroom teaching, supervise student research, provide personal interaction with students, and advising. Course content and methodology may be decided by the faculty member, subject to departmental and university approval. Research (40%): Conduct research, seek funding, publish in peerreviewed venues, and disseminate results. Service (20%): Engage in departmental, faculty, and university governance; contribute to disciplinewide service; disseminate knowledge to the public. Administrative: Prepare annual reports to the Department Chair and Dean. Qualifications Ph.D. in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Experience communicating research results, including publications in reputable, peerreviewed journals and conference proceedings. Licensure, progress toward licensure, or eligibility for licensure as a Professional Engineer or Licencee in Alberta through APEGA is required, with licensure obtained within five years of hire. Ability to develop, instruct, and engage learners in the engineering curriculum. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Assets include industry experience, major cybersecurity certificates (e.g., CISSP, ISSEP), interdisciplinary research experience, grant and financial management experience, teaching experience, and community outreach participation.
