Position As the leader of the Vehicle Interface team within the Telematics, Automation, and Controls Division, youll play a pivotal role in defining the development roadmap and vehicle communication technology across MacLean Engineerings 32+ vehicle types. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, youll drive progress in vehicle integration, hardware installation, wiring and electrical design, vehicle communication protocols, remote operation support, and configuration management while mentoring and empowering your team in a fastpaced, collaborative environment. Responsibilities and Duties Lead a team of engineers in designing and deploying vehicle connectivity solutions across onvehicle networks, embedded systems, and offvehicle communications for remote operation and monitoring. Provide handson mentorship across multiple technology stacks, emphasizing J1939/CAN bus, OPC UA, Protobufs, Simulink, CODESYS, and asset/configuration management. Collaborate crossfunctionally with electrical, controls, data, platform, autonomy, and GUI teams to provide the vehicleside foundation for modules and services. Foster knowledge sharing across functions, cultivating interdepartmental collaboration and impact. Oversee and contribute directly to the installation of Telematics hardware on MacLean vehicles, ensuring correct integration with vehicle systems. Own the onvehicle host edge device (running Azure IoT Edge): select and install hardware, provision devices, manage connectivity (WiFi, LTE), status indicators, device health, and diagnostics. Maintain accurate, uptodate wiring diagrams and electrical documentation as vehicles and systems evolve. Design and maintain onvehicle communication layers: J1939/CAN messaging, Ethernet/UDP transport, OPC UA information models, Protobuf schemas. Support and design protocols for lineofsight and nonlineofsight remote operations. Execute endtoend validation of the vehicle interface, including CAN trace analysis, bench and HIL/SIL testing, debugging network and timing issues, and validating module deployment against vehicle signals. Own interface control documentation (ICDs), message definitions, electrical diagrams, configuration/version management, and traceability across technical vehicle documentation. Ensure compliance with industry best practices, internal/international standards, cybersecurity practices on the host device, and robust release governance for vehicle firmware, configuration, and interface definitions. Qualifications Minimum seven years of experience aligning with the responsibilities and duties described. Bachelors degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Demonstrated experience with J1939/CAN bus protocols, OPC UA, and Protobuf message structures. Handson experience with embedded development tools including Simulink, CODESYS, and C++. Strong understanding of vehicle hardware integration, wiring, and electrical systems. Experience with asset and configuration management in a vehicle or industrial controls environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or similar certification is an asset. Mining industry experience is an asset. Experience supporting remote operation protocols (lineofsight and nonlineofsight) is an asset. Proficiency in other languages, primarily Spanish and French, is an asset. Experience with Azure IoT Edge and IIoT is an asset. Location and Work Requirements This role requires a strong inoffice presence; therefore, it is an inoffice position.
