Locations and Work Arrangement : Ottawa, ON., Victoria, B.C., Halifax, N.S., (CAN.), Hybrid Position Summary Thales Canada has a vacancy for a Docking & Engineering Specification Writer to support its NonCombatant InService Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy. The Docking & Engineering Specification Writer will work with the Thales LCMM & Engineering and Service Delivery Teams to provide project management and technical support to various Royal Canadian Navys NonCombatant Platforms, including the planning and execution of ship structural surveys, preparation of survey reports, development of repair specifications, docking work packages, and other technical support activities as required. Key Areas of Responsibility Preparation and review of docking specifications, docking facility work packages, technical proposals, and scopes of work. Support the Thales Certification Management Team with overall organization and coordination of structural surveys. Plan and execute periodic surveys, predocking surveys, and other surveys as required in conjunction with DND and Classification Society requirements. Investigate reported damage or suspect areas and provide preliminary survey reports to inform further repairs. Prepare structural survey reports, document defects/findings, and communicate to project stakeholders. Draft specifications for structural coating repairs, including surface preparation and preservation requirements. Support preparation and organization of docking specifications and docking work packages. Apply lessons learned from previous surveys and dockings to support configuration baseline changes, process updates, and other continuous improvement activities. Additional Tasks Review Engineering, Certification Management and other processes, identify areas of improvement, and prepare documented work scopes suitable for solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, repair and testing facilities, or specialist service providers. Prepare and review technical documentation and support baseline documentation updates; provide technical input into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development. Minimum Qualifications Minimum education: 3year technical program diploma (Technologists) or 2year technical program diploma (Technicians) in a marine technical field offered by a recognized technical institute. Certified technologist or technician by a recognized provincial, state, or federal licensing body in a relevant field, or certified as one of the following Canadian Armed Forces trades: Marine Technician RQPO1 or RQPO2; QL 6A or 6B Marine Electrician; QL 6A or 6B Naval Electronics Technician; QL6A or QL7 Marine Engineer; QL 6A or 6B Hull Technician. Minimum 8 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the marine/offshore sector within the last 15 years. Previous experience as a Marine Surveyor with a Classification Society or within the Royal Canadian Navy. Minimum five years experience in surveying or maintenance of vessels to commercial or military standards. Demonstrated experience with planning, management, and execution of ship dockings and drydock refits. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years experience in project management of ship repair and engineering change projects. AMPP Level 1 certification or similar. Welding inspector certification. Previous working experience with Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard. Experience delivering marine inservice support of operational assets. Language: English (essential) with French desirable as a first or second language. Special Position Requirements Schedule: 40 hours per week. Physical Environment: Hybrid position mix of working from home and onsite (in office or on board DND ships at waterfront). Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of ships. Compensation : Total Target Cash 90,000.00 105,000 CDN annual.
