Our mission is to make every league night the best night of the week for our athletes. Role Overview The League Manager is the face of Brodie on game night. This role owns the on-site execution and athlete experience at their assigned Brodie League location(s). The League Manager is accountable for ensuring game nights run smoothly, professionally, and to the Brodie Standard -- from staff readiness and game flow to player experience and issue resolution. Every player who laces up is choosing Brodie over everything else they could be doing. The League Manager is responsible for making sure that choice feels worth it -- every single week. You anticipate problems before they surface, hold every game night to a premium standard, and treat every gym like it''s a Brodie venue -- because it is. Core Responsibilities Season Operations Build and manage an airtight season schedule across all divisions, gyms, and time slots Own team placement, division balancing, and captain onboarding from day one Run game nights at a premium standard: the right refs, the right setup, zero chaos Manage standings, stats, and weekly results with accuracy and speed Execute playoffs and championship events that players talk about for years Review and approve payroll for all game-night staff each week, ensuring accuracy before submission Captain & Team Experience Be the highest-quality point of contact captains have ever had in a rec league Respond fast, follow through every time, and make captains feel like they matter Anticipate problems before captains even notice them Own the retention playbook: the experience should be so good, re-signing is a no-brainer Facilities & Logistics Hold gym partners to the same standard we hold ourselves Book and manage court time so nothing is ever scrambled or last-minute Show up to every game night like the venue is a reflection of the brand -- because it is Must have reliable access to transportation sufficient to transport brand fixtures and equipment to the league venue Data & Reporting Track registrations, capacity, and team health weekly Spot issues early and act on them before they become problems Keep leadership informed with clear, accurate updates Requirements Must Have Strong leader with the presence and confidence to command a gym on a busy game night Player-first mindset -- you genuinely care about making the athlete experience exceptional Highly organized and detail-oriented; nothing falls through the cracks on your watch Calm under pressure with the ability to resolve conflict and make decisions on the fly Reliable and accountable -- your team and your District Manager can count on you every week Comfortable working with digital tools, scorekeeping systems, and operational checklists Availability for evenings and weekends -- game nights are non-negotiable Communication that is fast, clear, and professional every time Reliable access to transportation sufficient to transport brand fixtures and equipment to the league venue Must operate as a self-employed individual and be responsible for own tax remittances and HST obligations Nice to Have Background in premium sports, hospitality, or client-driven service environments Network in Edmonton''s basketball or rec sports community Experience playing in or captaining a competitive rec league Experience managing vendors, facilities, or partner relationships Previous experience in sports operations, event management, or a leadership role Independent Contractor Notice This is an independent contractor role, not an employment relationship. As an independent contractor in Alberta, you will be responsible for your own tax remittances, including income tax, Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contributions, and GST/HST registration if applicable. You will not be entitled to benefits under Alberta''s Employment Standards Code, including vacation pay, public holiday pay, overtime pay, or termination notice under the Code. Brodie League retains the right to terminate this contract in accordance with the notice provisions set out in the written contractor agreement. The nature of this engagement will be assessed based on the actual working relationship, and contractors are encouraged to seek independent legal or financial advice prior to entering into this arrangement.
