Associate Operator At a glance Position: Associate Operator Primary Location: Toronto (ON, CAN) About you and this Role In this role, you will operate assigned equipment or areas within the Chemical Plant, completing and reporting operational activities in alignment with the Operations Dashboard (OPD) Tasks List. You will use discretionary time to support sustainable facility performance and apply your operations knowledge and experience to proactively run the plant in a safe, reliable, and optimal manner. You will collaborate closely with Shift Team members to anticipate and resolve unplanned events within the shifts capabilities and appropriately elevate issues requiring additional support. You may also support the development of less experienced operators through onjob training. The role requires established basic technical skills to complete a range of routine tasks using standard processes and methods. Note: Operator progression is managed at the site level. Responsibilities Follows Operating Discipline policies, principles, procedures, standards and practices to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of assigned plant areas. Ensures adequate operating discipline is available for all planned and unplanned activities. Operates and field checks process equipment. Monitors process conditions, key performance metrics, equipment and control systems and makes appropriate decisions to maintain and/or achieve desired rates and conditions aligned with Plant/Site/Business goals. Performs scheduled operational and related tasks and tasks that arise as a result of resolving unplanned events. Identifies and manages risks associated with handling and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Works with shift team members and other shift teams to leverage skills and knowledge to balance workload ensuring assigned tasks are completed by due dates. Conducts effective shift relief, as defined in facility specific operating discipline and tools, to ensure effective communication and handoff to arriving shift team. Maintains qualification in assigned areas, per facility policy, and completes training goals in a timely manner. This includes using discretionary time to address skills and knowledge gaps. Mentors and trains new and existing operations personnel on process operation, troubleshooting and the use of operating discipline in alignment to plant''s training process. Performs Immediate Response activities, as assigned. Initiates and documents preliminary investigations according to plant specific process/criteria and participates in formal and informal Root Cause Investigations for events involved in or by request. Tracks and utilizes the plant''s key performance metrics on shift that are applicable to the Operating the Plant role to optimize operations and identify improvement opportunities. Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and operating discipline. Proactively identifies improvements and opportunities utilizing the facility improvement processes, appropriate management of change processes and communication tools. Performs Autonomous Maintenance, including minor repairs and preventative maintenance, utilizing appropriate policies, procedures, processes and disciplines. Mechanical Principles : Apply fundamental concepts of mechanics to analyze and solve technical problems. Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) : Interpret and utilize PFDs to understand and optimize process operations. Adaptability : Adjust effectively to changing conditions, priorities, and challenges in the workplace. System Procedures : Follow established protocols to maintain consistency, safety, and efficiency in operations. Mechanical Aptitude : Demonstrate practical skills and understanding of mechanical systems and equipment. Process Safety : Implement measures to prevent accidents and ensure safe operation of industrial processes. DetailOriented : Maintain accuracy and precision by focusing on the finer aspects of tasks and processes. Emergency Procedures : Respond quickly and correctly to emergencies by following predefined safety protocols. Chemical Processes : Understand and apply principles of chemical reactions and operations in production environments. Time Management : Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and optimize productivity. Risk Awareness: Recognize potential hazards and take proactive steps to minimize risks in all activities. Qualifications A minimum of a Technical Diploma/Trade Certificate or a 4th class power engineering certification AND a High School Diploma or GED is required. A minimum of 1year relevant industrial experience in chemical or related industrial environment is required. Able to work a 12hour rotating shift schedule, overtime will be offered as required. Ability to wear fullface respirator. Ability to safely work in a plant environment, meet physical demands, work at elevated heights, and comfortably use PPE and safety equipment. Must be familiar with or open to training on proper equipment usage. Class 5 driver''s license and ability to operate a forklift and other vehicles. Legal eligibility to work in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position. Additional Notes Position is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. For positions based in Ontario, Dow is required by law to include the pay scale that is reasonably expected to represent the pay range for the position. A reasonable pay range is: $68,760 $114,600.
