Reporting to the QC Manager, the job holder ensures the quality of the product, through analytic testing of in process and finished material, is in specification while working in a safe manner. The job holder is in close contact with the QC Manager regarding the technical performance of the lab equipment and processes. Responsibilities Ensure all health, safety, and security procedures are always observed. Promote and support safety and quality programs as an active member of the Quality Group. Perform regular analysis on finished and in-process products to ensure food safety and quality requirements are met. Register incoming samples as required and ensure accurate sample tracking and documentation. Complete laboratory testing on all incoming samples accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner, including microbiological testing. Ensure sample turnaround time (TAT) goals are met or exceeded. Maintain laboratory raw materials, including chemical reagents and microbiological media. Document and maintain records related to laboratory and microbiology testing activities. Collect and analyze raw materials and finished products, including preparation for microbiological analysis. Maintain laboratory equipment consistent with ISO, customer, and/or regulatory standards and procedures. Partner with the production team to resolve quality- and food-safety-related issues. Identify process difficulties, testing deviations, or workflow inefficiencies and report these to the manager, along with proposed solutions. Assist in developing and implementing quality and food safety programs throughout the site. Assist technicians within the department and engage in cross-training, as required. Housekeeping to meet and exceed FSSC, 5S, and good laboratory practices. Participate in continuous improvement / kaizen initiatives. Apply troubleshooting skills to resolve testing, equipment, or process-related issues while maintaining data integrity and compliance. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications A post-secondary degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, or another related science field. Minimum 2 years experience in a similar laboratory environment and/or industry. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP. Experience with laboratory instrumentation such as pH meters, GC, viscometers, spectrometers, etc. Exposure to modern analytical tools. Proficiency in microbiology laboratory techniques, including aseptic techniques, sample preparation, and handling of microbiological materials. Experience performing microbiological testing is considered an asset. Knowledge of GMP, GLP, and quality protocols. Knowledge of ISO 9001, FSSC 22000, and HACCP are considered an asset. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
