Job Description

Oberland Agriscience Inc. is a sustainable black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) farm in Halifax, NS. We are dedicated to closing the food loop in our region and making a positive contribution to our planet. Oberlands high-performing team rears BSFL in our zero-waste facility, delivering exceptional productivity per hectare and yielding nutrient-rich, low-environmental impact products. Partnering with local food producers and distributors, Oberland upcycles organic waste and food production by-products such as spent grains from local craft breweries to grow BSFL on an industrial scale. Oberland actively plays a role in a more sustainable circular economy in Atlantic Canada. Oberland generates high-quality sustainable protein products from the larvae, marketed and sold under the Obies BSFL brand, and is seeking certification on an insect-derived fertilizer product for home gardens and agricultural lands. Job Summary The Process Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, optimizing, and supporting manufacturing processes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production within the agriscience manufacturing facility. In addition this role will be responsible for leading the end-to-end execution of equipment line projects. This role partners closely with Operations, Quality, OHS, and Maintenance to improve process performance, reduce variability, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Develop, monitor, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, yield, and efficiency Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement Lead process troubleshooting efforts related to quality deviations, equipment issues, and process upsets Support new product introductions, process scale-up, and technology transfers Create, review, and maintain process documentation including SOPs, work instructions, and process flow diagrams Participate in hazard analyses, risk assessments, and management of change (MOC) activities Collaborate with Production Supervisors to ensure processes are executed as designed Lead or assist with capital projects, equipment selection, and process validation Ensure compliance with GMP, OHS, ECCC, and internal standards Provide equipment recommendations as required Define project scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables Develop and manage detailed project plans and schedules Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, operations, and contractors Track progress and adjust plans as needed to meet milestones Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills Hands-on approach with ability to work in a plant environment Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) with the ability to analyze production data and prepare reports. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, Project Management, or related field 5+ years of experience managing industrial or manufacturing projects Strong understanding of process control, process safety, and manufacturing fundamentals Experience with equipment line design, installation, or automation systems preferred Exposure to the agriculture industry is an asset This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
