Job Description

Community Midwives have a key role in a comprehensive maternity care team, supported by the IWK Health Centre. They provide primary care, including hospital or home birth, and manage clients from conception through the newborn period. Clients include 3-4 per month at homes, the clinic, or the hospital site. The role facilitates continuity of care beyond the childbearing year, maintaining communication with other providers as needed. Hours of Work Oncall roster and clinical rotations are established with the midwifery team. Qualifications Graduate of a Canadian University Midwifery education program or equivalent in accordance with the Nova Scotia Midwifery Act and Regulations. Eligibility for registration with an active clinical license subject to approval by the Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia. Current certificates in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) with intubation, and an Obstetrical Emergency Skills course (e.g., ALSO) required. Recent Midwifery practice experience meeting the Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia standards for currency of practice. Experience working within the Canadian Midwifery Model of Practice an asset. Valid Nova Scotia class5 drivers licence with dependable vehicle access at all times. Eligible for liability insurance coverage and ability to provide a recent criminal record check with vulnerable sector and child abuse registry searches. Flexible scheduling to meet patient needs at home, clinic, hospital, and oncall coverage. Physical ability to perform duties under varying weather, environmental conditions, including lifting, carrying equipment, and navigating stairs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Experience working with multicultural, underserved, and marginalised populations an asset. Competence in other languages an asset. Where there are no qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements for recent Midwifery practice experience, consideration may be given to registered professionals without the required experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
