Emergency Health Services (EHS) in Northern Alberta offers a role that supports your lifestyle while providing meaningful opportunities for professional growth and development. The position is based at Grande Prairie Hub and supports service delivery across Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Fox Creek, Grande Cache, Spirit River, and Valleyview. Responsibilities As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients, and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semiautomated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as nonemergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g. backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for a PCP are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lb while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods, and stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, sidecarry up to 20lb in each hand, and assume awkward positions. Required Qualifications Nonrestricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) CPR certification. Valid Class4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent and a fiveyear driver abstract current within six months with no more than six demerits prior to commencing work. Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via certificate from Lifemark for those who do not already hold a clinical position within AHSEMS. F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six months prior to application. Must be qualified to perform full operational duties as of the start date. Preferred Qualifications Previous EMS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environment. Experience in other areas of health care and public safety. Completion of additional postsecondary programs (certificate, diploma, or degree) considered an asset; proof of completion must be provided at application.
