We invite a dedicated professional to join our FASD/Family Support team as a FASD Adult Advocate who will make a tangible impact in our community. About the Role The Adult Advocate works with adults diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and their immediate social networks. The role provides casemanagement support, advocacy, and system navigation to improve participants life circumstances, build goals, and connect them to comprehensive community services. A clientcentered, strengthsbased, harmreduction approach is essential, alongside a solid understanding of FASD and traumainformed practice. Duties and Responsibilities Program Delivery Provide ongoing supportive case management for up to 15 adults with or potentially having FASD. Collaboratively build goal plans, develop action steps, evaluate progress, and revise plans. Assist participants through rolemodeling, teaching, information, brokering, and advocacy. Assess and enhance participants readiness to make positive changes and increase selfreliance. Provide crisis intervention support. Ensure completion of FASD or functional assessments to identify strengths, resources, needs, and aspirations. Support access to basic needs, including financial support, budgeting, housing, legal, psychological/mental health, addiction treatment, or referrals. Advocate for realistic and appropriate service plans and facilitate referrals, including warm transfers to medical, wellness, and recovery appointments. Demonstrate effective collaboration with service providers for challenging participants. Use deescalation and rapportbuilding techniques in nonjudgmental interactions. Provide transportation to appointments as needed and when participants are not yet selfsufficient. Transport participants with children using safety procedures. Conduct and submit participant surveys within deadlines. Assist in group programming to strengthen daily living skills and reduce isolation and loneliness. General and Administrative Maintain accurate written file notes, computer records, program information, WCB, and critical incident reports within established time standards. Maintain a current and accurate file for each participant. Utilize ETO, ADP, Teams, and Outlook. Provide latest program information and updated statistics as required. Maintain and submit accurate mileage and expense logs for reimbursement. Participate in probationary and annual performance reviews. Engage in ongoing learning and training opportunities identified in performance reviews. Attend scheduled staff, supervision, and case management meetings. Participate in Community Safety Walks on a rotating schedule as required. Qualifications Education and Experience Degree or Diploma in Social Science or related field and/or comparable experience with FASD or disabilities. Social Work Diploma/Degree/Masters holders must maintain registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) as required by the Alberta Health Professions Act. Minimum of one year related employment experience (e.g., highrisk populations, FASD, or community development). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Commitment to a strengthbased, clientcentered, harmreduction approach. Knowledge of the roles, functions, and activities of case management. Conflict resolution and problemsolving skills. Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and meet tight timelines independently. Flexibility in work schedule. Strong professional boundaries. Effective written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, history, current issues, and marginalized communities that have experienced trauma. Direct experience with poverty, homelessness, and Edmontons urban core. Conditions of Work Some evening and weekend work may be required. Operation of personal vehicle with required insurance. Working closely with participants experiencing complex life situations.
