Your Opportunity Stantecs Environmental Services Team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer/Scientist to support and lead projects in: Hazardous Building Materials (HBM) Assessments & Abatement support/oversight Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) Phase II ESAs and related subsurface investigations Project Management for multi-disciplinary environmental work Senior Quality Review of technical deliverables (preferred) You will work on projects across Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada (and occasionally beyond), collaborating with local teams and national subject matter experts. This role is well-suited for a professional who enjoys a mix of technical leadership, client-facing project management, and quality-driven delivery. Your Key Responsibilities Hazardous Building Materials (HBM) & Abatement Plan and lead hazardous building materials assessments (e.g., asbestos, lead, PCBs, mercury, ozone-depleting substances, mould, and other designated substances), including scoping, field coordination, and reporting. Develop and/or review abatement-related scopes of work, tender/spec language, and supporting documentation; provide technical guidance during abatement and demolition activities as required. Coordinate with clients, contractors, and laboratories; ensure defensible documentation and chain-of-custody practices. Phase I / Phase II ESAs & Environmental Investigations Lead and/or oversee Phase I ESA delivery (records review, site visits, interpretation, reporting) and support higher complexity or portfolio ESA work. Manage and/or execute Phase II ESA and related field programs (test pits/borings, sampling, contractor oversight, data evaluation, reporting). Provide technical direction to field teams and subcontractors (e.g., drillers, utility locators), including safe work planning and execution. Project Management & Client Service Manage scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables for multiple projects concurrently; communicate clearly with clients and internal stakeholders. Support proposal development and business development activities (scoping, approach, resourcing, and technical write-ups). Mentor intermediate and junior staff; contribute to a strong safety culture and technical excellence. Quality Leadership (Preferred) Serve as a Senior Quality Reviewer for reports and deliverablesensuring technical accuracy, clarity, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards and client requirements. Your Capabilities and Credentials Demonstrated experience leading HBM assessments and supporting abatement activities (including reporting and contractor-facing technical guidance). Demonstrated experience delivering Phase I ESAs and managing and/or overseeing Phase II ESA field programs and reporting. Strong technical writing and review skills; high attention to detail and defensibility of conclusions. Strong communication skills and ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects. Working knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation/guidance (asset). Eligibility for federal security clearance may be required depending on client/project. Valid drivers license and ability/willingness to travel for field work as needed. Education and Experience Bachelors degree in engineering, Environmental Science, Geoscience, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting with a strong focus on hazardous building materials and Phase I/II ESAs. P.Eng. is a benefit (and/or eligibility for professional registration, depending on discipline). Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Field work may include exposure to the elements, travel, and work in active construction/industrial environments in accordance with project health and safety requirements. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
