Intermediate Soil Scientist Edmonton, Alberta This is a permanent position with an hourly compensation range of $35.00$48.00. The role is mainly fieldbased and may require travel throughout Alberta. The Intermediate Soil Scientist will work in an integrated team of ecologists, scientists, agrologists, water resource engineers, hydrogeologists, and technologists to deliver environmental projects. Responsibilities Provide expertise in Soil Science while developing and collaborating with a team to deliver highquality products. Support client reclamation programs, including soil salvage, soil placement, reclamation monitoring, and compliance with regulatory commitments. Assist and/or lead soil survey programs, from proposals and project startup through to the final deliverable submission. Contribute to field programs as a crew member or field lead depending on experience, while building the skills and knowledge required to take on larger, more complex projects and roles. Gain a thorough understanding of the pipeline and mining regulatory environment and industrial operations, in addition to contributing to the successful reclamation of major industrial projects. Work cooperatively with technical, Health and Safety, GIS, and administrative colleagues to successfully deliver our products. Serve as project manager on small to mediumsized projects or assist project managers on larger projects with various tasks as they arise. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: data management through collection, entry, synthesis and reporting; preparing field reports; ground disturbance preparation; hazard assessments; sample processing and delivery. Qualifications Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science, or Diploma in Environmental Science or a related field from a postsecondary institute. Proficient in the Canadian System of Soil Classification and familiar with Western Canadian environmental regulations. At least 3 years of work experience in environmental consulting or related industry, soil survey or soil handling; monitoring specific experience preferred. Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) designation (preferred). Experience providing soil expertise for construction monitoring and working with heavyequipment contractors. Strong communication ability, both written and oral, with excellent interpersonal skills. Familiarity with spill response assessments and risk management planning is considered an asset. Valid class 5 drivers license with no restrictions. Work Environment And Physical Requirements Sitting, standing, and walking. Physical capacity for strenuous fieldwork, including auguring deep inspection sites and walking several kilometers through rough terrain.
