This position is unionised and governed by the CUPE Collective Agreement. Compensation, Benefits & Pension Hourly rate: $35.53 $50.86 per hour (all new hires start at the starting rate, in accordance with the ONA Collective Agreement). This gives transparency about the potential progression without misrepresenting the immediate starting pay. Protects you legally and is consistent with ONA / ESA requirements. Shift premiums in accordance with the ONA Collective Agreement. Comprehensive benefits package or percentage in lieu of benefits, where applicable. Participation in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree preferred. Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Oneyear experience in geriatric, rehabilitation or longterm care preferred. Supervisory ability to teambuild, lead, and demonstrate flexibility in a changing healthcare environment. Certification in Gerontology and current membership with RNAO is desirable. Ability to speak Italian language is an asset. Key Responsibilities Accountable to the Manager, Nursing Unit for the quality of resident care and management of the units. In the leadership role, promotes effective communication between all team members and ensures Nursing Manager and/or Charge Nurse receives pertinent information in a timely manner. Ensures resident care is provided in accordance with established nursing standards and principals, physicians orders, LTCHA and its regulations and Villa Colombo policies. Observes reports, and records vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents and initiates remedial health measures where appropriate. Understands, respects and complies with Resident Bill of Rights. Leads and coordinates the interdisciplinary team in the provision of resident care from shift to shift. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the individualized team in the provision of residents that ensure a resident and family focus. Administers medications and treatments within their scope of practice. Observes and documents changes in condition resulting from medications/treatments. Makes regular rounds in order to assess each resident and maintain full and constant knowledge of each residents condition, activities and changing needs. Supervises and assists residents with eating in dining areas at meal times. Responds to resident call bells and assists with ADLs as required. Accountable for documentation, assessments and care plans and ensures that the resident health record (electronic and manual) is complete and accurate including nursing observations and procedures performed, including resident response. Receives medication orders, stores and monitors the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics. Conducts physician rounds and liaises with medical staff. Sets quarterly and annual objectives for units in collaboration with the Manager, Nursing Unit and Care Teams. Will provide leadership and support for RPNs in cases of medically complex resident/family care and issues. Inspires, motivates and coaches direct care staff to meet the individualized needs and expectations of the residents reflecting the mission, vision and values of the organization. Cooperates and maintains professional relationship with staff, residents, families and visitors. Conducts staff meetings to discuss resident care with team and adjusts plan of care accordingly as needed. Mentors and trains new staff. Assumes mentorship role in professional development of students obtaining clinical experience. In collaboration with the Manager, Nursing Unit assists in probationary and annual performance appraisals for RPNs and PSW staff. Assist staff to identify learning needs and to participate in reflective practice. Assists in maintaining a neat, clean and safe environment for residents, staff and all visitors to the home. Participates in the staff meetings, inservice and continuing care education program. Recognises safety hazards and takes appropriate action to remove/remediate the hazard. Adheres to established facility policies and procedures including safety rules and safe working practice. Completes Employee Incident Reports, Offers Modified Work, Completes the investigation and provides First Aid as required. Completes WorxHub for maintenance and relevant health and safety related issues. Ensures open and accurate information is communicated during shift report. Intervenes as required to assist in problem solving and address any resident/family concerns. Complies with Long Term Care Home Act and its Regulations and College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice, Villa Colombo policies and procedures and other relevant regulatory and legislative standards. Leads committees and quality projects as assigned. Other duties as required refer to RN job routine. Additional Requirements Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (issued within the last six months) as a condition of employment. Compliance with occupational health, immunization, and screening requirements. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
