Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton, South Campus Edmonton, Enterprise Square, Campus Saint-Jean, and Augustana Camrose. Travel to offsite locations to gather content elements as needed. Highlights of the role The Content Specialist, Video, produces high-impact visual storytelling content that highlights the University of Albertas research and activities to tell our story to the world. This role focuses on creating compelling visual stories that illustrate the universitys value to the broader community and to society as a whole. By translating complex research and initiatives into relatable, human-centered stories, the Specialist ensures work done here resonates with todays audiences. The Specialist serves as a dedicated practitioner who handles the workflow from the spark of an initial idea through story research, logistics, filming and the final technical polish. They ensure every story is expertly prepared for strategic distribution to meet todays audiences where they are. This role is rooted in collaboration. The Specialist works alongside internal partners and subject matter experts to research and surface the diverse range of research developments and initiatives happening across all our campuses. By producing original content that reflects this breadth of work, the role demonstrates how work done at the university leads to measurable improvements in daily lives and creates value for the public. The Specialist provides the expert editorial judgment and advice to ensure all stories are audiencefirst and evidence-based, with a goal of amplifying the universitys mission through a high volume of timely, accessible, and compelling visual narratives that align with how audiences consume information today. Responsibilities Uses strong editorial judgment and multimedia production skills to create highquality, engaging content across formatsincluding written stories, audio, video, and photographyfor use across a broad range of platforms to support the universitys communications goals. Identifies, pitches, and independently develops original story concepts and angles that highlight research expertise, programs, partnerships, and institutional initiatives. Drives the production lifecycle from concept to completion, including story research, interviewing, shooting, and postproduction; attending and capturing unfolding university events for timely storytelling as needed. Works with internal clients and leaders to deliver on specific communication needs, translating client and institutional objectives into effective narratives and providing guidance on how to best create and share stories to meet institutional goals. Maintains a serviceoriented approach while navigating a large, multiinterestholder environment, effectively building consensus and buyin to ensure storytelling aligns with both professional standards and diverse organizational priorities. Builds and maintains strong relationships across the university to surface compelling storytelling opportunities that bridge the gap between scholarly expertise and public understanding. Coordinates shoot logistics, including sourcing interview locations and Broll that strengthens narrative impact, while ensuring all activities adhere to safety and PPE requirements, as well as privacy, regulatory, and institutional policies. Qualifications 2year diploma or Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, or related field Minimum of 5 years of experience in journalism, communications, content production, multimedia content production, including news or corporate storytelling Demonstrated experience in applying a journalistic approach to photography, digital, filming, video and audio production, and editing Skills in news and editorial story development, writing, editing, research, interviewing, and script development, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences across multiple platforms Experience producing corporate or executivelevel communications in a complex or regulated environment, including executive messaging and enterprise storytelling Experience advising clients and working directly with senior leaders and subject matter experts to translate strategic priorities into clear, audiencefocused communications, using strong editorial judgment. Strong organizational and timemanagement skills with the ability to manage multiple highpriority projects simultaneously Knowledge of privacy regulations (ATIA, POPA) and institutional brand standards related to digital communications. Experience using photo and video gathering equipment is required, such as ENG videography gear. Experience shooting vertical video is required. Experience using digital content tools such as Adobe Express or Premiere Pro is required; familiarity with inphone editing tools such as Splice or CapCut is an asset. Experience with video captioning and publishing tools is an asset Experience creating digital content for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube and TikTok. French language proficiency is an asset Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (nonGDL) drivers license.
