Job Description

Job Overview The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Lab Technician . This Fixed Term Recurring Parttime position is for approximately 6 months with possibility of extension. This role reports to the Principal Investigator and is an hourly, irregularschedule, parttime position. Responsibilities Develop and implement experiments under the general supervision of the PI, following research guidelines. Conduct laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses to support research goals. Record findings for publication at national and international levels. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment safely and reliably. Train staff and students in equipment operation and laboratory protocols. Conduct analyses of various biological samples (e.g., tissues, blood, urine) and record results. Understand and apply safety codes, standards, and systems related to the specialty. Keep laboratory and work area clean and safe. Operate basic technical equipment and provide semiskilled to skilled procedures. Qualifications Bachelor''s degree in a related discipline. Specialized certification in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Physiology. Minimum 2 years of technical experience postsecondary education in a related discipline. 13 years of experience in the relevant research specialty. Technical expertise in standard cell biology and biochemistry techniques (RNA/DNA isolation, genotyping, cell transfection, RTqPCR, Western blotting, immunostaining, simple and confocal microscopy) is an asset. Experience with detailed design, documentation, and implementation of moderately complex technical systems. Literature review skills and the ability to engage with team members. Technical support experience for team members. Experience with biological samples (blood, tissues, urine) and, as an asset, with live animals (mice) and cells in culture. Strong communication, teamwork, and customerservice skills; ability to exercise judgment within guidelines. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
