Location: U of T Bookstore, St George Campus What Youll Be Doing The Floor Manager is responsible for the full operation of two retail floors at the University of Toronto St George Bookstore. This position owns the visual merchandising strategy and execution across all non-textbook categories while leading a team of part-time associates through their Assistant Floor Manager. Working closely with the General Manager and buying team, the Floor Manager sets and executes the floor vision, drives sales performance, and manages a labour and scheduling budget. The Floor Manager holds overall accountability for inventory health, with the Assistant Floor Manager responsible for day-to-day execution. This is a full-time salaried position for 7.25 hours daily (36.25 hours weekly), including regular evening and weekend shifts in support of six-day retail operations. Key Responsibilities Lead, develop, and onboard the store associate team, with direct oversight of the Assistant Floor Manager. Hold the team accountable to daily floor execution standards and a consistent customer experience. Hire and schedule staff within Bookstore policy and an assigned labour budget. Act as Manager-on-Duty as required, including store opening and closing and all operational checklists. Uphold Health and Safety standards across both floors and always hold staff accountable to them. Own the visual merchandising strategy and execution across both floors for all non-textbook categories. Propose floor plans and seasonal resets for approval, then lead execution including monthly re-merchandising and product flips. Ensure promotional signage is current, accurate, and consistently implemented. Collaborate with buyers and the Marketing team to align floor execution with product launches, promotions, and seasonal themes. Foster relationships with University of Toronto faculty, students, staff, and administration. Hold accountability for inventory health, with the Assistant Floor Manager responsible for day-to-day execution. Oversee cycle counts, variance investigation, and daily resolution of negative on-hand items. Action inventory discrepancies in NetSuite and use floor data to guide replenishment decisions. Drive sales performance to target and manage the labour budget to ensure efficient staff deployment. Identify revenue opportunities and partner with the General Manager and buyers on floor strategy. Partner with the General Manager on operational planning and store-wide priorities. Support special events, seasonal peaks, and cross-departmental needs as required. Education, Qualifications and Experience Post-secondary graduate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 8+ years of retail experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory or management role in a multi-category or multi-floor environment. Experience in visual merchandising and translating seasonal direction into floor execution. Experience managing sales targets and a labour budget. Proficiency with inventory management systems; NetSuite experience is an asset. Experience in a university, post-secondary, or campus retail environment is an asset. Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Sound understanding of visual merchandising principles and how floor presentation drives sales. Capable of interpreting sales and inventory data and translating insight into actionable strategies. Effective organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Accountable people manager committed to developing and coaching a part-time team and delivering service excellence. Self-directed with sound judgment and comfortable in an active, hands-on retail environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or POS systems is highly desirable.
