Job Description

Location This role is in-person at North Campus, Edmonton. Responsibilities Project/Academic Activities (40%) Completes and submits Human Ethics applications for all projects involving human participants. Leads participant recruitment, including creation of recruitment materials, attending offsite recruitment events, and communicating with networks. Conducts research activities, ensuring participant safety, accurate data collection, secure data storage, and proper honourary payments. Performs data analyses, including statistical analysis. Prepares and conducts regular project reporting meetings with supervisors and external stakeholders. Monitors project spending to keep projects within budget and reports budgetary information to the Program Coordinator and Principal Investigator. Gathers information and prepares reporting data required by funding bodies in a timely manner, informing all relevant parties of reporting deadlines. Supports student volunteers or placements assigned to the project. Prepares scientific papers for publication, collaborates with the Program Coordinator and Principal Investigator, submits the papers, and handles reviewer comments. Conducts literature reviews to support funding proposals, report writing, and academic papers. Supports grantproposal writing through editing support, drafting, and identifying funding opportunities. Plans and attends communityengagement events for research purposes, coordinating logistics, advertising, note taking, and postevent reporting to all appropriate stakeholders. Access, Community and Belonging (ACB) Advisor (10%) Leads the development of labspecific ACB guidelines, frameworks, and action plans to exemplify the incorporation of these values. Supports the integration of ACB considerations into study design, participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis to ensure fairness and inclusivity. Organises and oversees ACBfocused training sessions, including antiracism, antiableism, accessibility and cultural safety workshops. Provides tailored mentorship and guidance to trainees, ensuring equitable access to opportunities and professional development. Strengthens partnerships with equitydeserving groups, including Indigenous, rural and underrepresented communities, ensuring research practices are culturally safe and respectful. Develops mechanisms to track and assess labwide ACB progress, including diversity metrics, mentorship engagement and feedback from team members. Collaborates with the Inclusion and Accessibility ViceDirector of the iSMART Institute for mentorship and strategic advice on best practices. Communication and Administration (20%) Serves as first point of contact for specific research projects they are coordinating. Receives and prioritises incoming communications related to the project(s). Provides presentations on research activities for lab tours, conferences and similar settings. Collaborates with central External Relations on publicfacing communications, preparing, submitting and implementing labrelated updates for distribution through approved university channels and ensuring alignment with university communication policies and branding standards. Oversees the labs social media and digital communications strategy, ensuring consistent, purposeful, brandaligned messaging. Maintains website content for the lab website on ualberta.ca and for a separate lab website. Supports the team in creating presentations, posters and other materials for conferences and events. Prepares and distributes agendas and briefing materials for regular lab meetings. Supports the Program Coordinator with email management and calendaring. Document/Materials Development (15%) Creates and proofreads Standard Operating Procedures for relevant equipment and processes to the projects. Creates and maintains documentation of research protocols and activities, including Participant Information and Consent forms, formal protocol documents and honouraria payment tracking forms. Adheres to documentationretaining requirements for participant records, financial records and others. Prepares project reporting documents, including scientific paper drafts, final reports and final presentations. Prepares content for website and social media, including written work, video, photography and video editing. Improves presentations, posters and other visual communications for team members and events. Creates and maintains promotional materials such as project onepagers, rack cards, brochures and swag material for use at conferences, events and lab tours. Assists with routine travel arrangements. Coordinates events, both professional and social, for research and team activities, including scheduling rooms and spaces, organising equipment, ordering catering and assembling materials. Supports staff and students on managing and scheduling space for research activities. Supervision and Leadership (15%) Responsible for hiring, supervising, mentoring and managing employee performance within a large, complex, unionised environment. Uses excellent interpersonal skills and applies the employerperspective necessary to effectively manage and supervise a team of unionised support staff. Demonstrates working knowledge of the Collective Agreements, HR related policies and procedures (UAPPOL) and HR bestpractice standards. Consults with the Facultys centralised HR team to ensure all HR transactions comply with required U of A processes and procedures. Consults with supervisors, HR partners and central HR units regarding all other HR, employee relations and labourrelations issues to ensure compliance with Collective Agreements, policy and legislative requirements. Develops and maintains positive, professional, collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders at all organisational levels. Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences with at least 5years of directly relevant experience in an NGO, social sector or university/research environment (asset). Background in anthropology and/or Public Health (strong asset). Excellent organisational, timemanagement and criticalthinking skills; strong attention to detail required. Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, including professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy. Excellent spelling, grammar, editing and proofreading skills. Knowledge of health care industry and terminology (asset). High tolerance for ambiguity; adaptable to a changing environment. Demonstrated understanding of creating equitable, diverse and inclusive practices. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Able to perform searches on databases and websites to support project activities; experience with literature reviews. Proven computer proficiency at an advanced level in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications, datamanagement platforms (REDCap, Qualtrics) and other research systems (PeopleSoft, NVivo or similar). Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing competing priorities. Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise work effectively. Ability to network and build strong professional relationships. Experience managing or coordinating research projects, including directing undergraduate students. Experience with ethics submissions, manuscript editing and academic writing such as annual reports. Works collaboratively with internal and external clients and stakeholders at all organisational levels. Demonstrates excellent judgement and initiative. Employs an employerperspective necessary to effectively supervise technical, administrative staff, practicum students and student volunteers. Experience of 13years of HRrelated skills and experience in hiring, leading, supervising, mentoring and managing employee performance within a large, complex, unionised environment. Basic working knowledge and compliance with the relevant Collective Agreements and UofA policies and procedures, as well as HR bestpractice standards. Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Science or Public Health with 23years of relevant experience. Openness to new experiences. Friendly and outgoing personality. Experience with mentoring and training junior team members and/or students. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead small groups. Experience with rural healthcare services. Experience working with the disabled community. Experience coordinating research projects from conception to completion. Experience with advanced data analysis software (NVivo, MAXQDA) (asset). Experience with electronic data capture, online survey platforms and referencemanagement software (EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley) (asset).
