Job Title: HSE ManagerOn-site/ Remote/ Hybrid: On-SiteLocation: Medicine Hat, AlbertaJob Type: PermanentSalary: TBDReporting to the Head of Business Operations, the HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving Health, Safety, and Environmental programs. This role is based in Medicine Hat, Alberta, with responsibility across Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, and global field operations as required.You will lead compliance, risk management, audits, investigations, and cultural initiatives while maintaining key ISO certifications and ensuring alignment with regulatory and organizational requirements.Responsibilities:Develop and execute HSE strategies, operational plans, and improvement initiatives.Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, governance frameworks, and organizational programs.Monitor emerging HSE legislation and best practices; update policies and procedures accordingly.Foster a strong, safety-conscious culture through leadership, engagement, education, and recognition.Compliance, Audits & CertificationMaintain and improve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications; support ISO 9001.Lead internal audits and manage corrective actions.Ensure statutory inspections are completed and records maintained.Chair Health & Safety Committee meetings and manage action tracking.Risk, Incident & Emergency ManagementFacilitate hazard identification and risk assessments using the hierarchy of controls.Track, review, and update risk assessments.Lead and support incident, near-miss, and stop-work investigations.Prepare investigation reports for senior leadership and external stakeholders as required.Maintain the Emergency Response Plan and coordinate drills.Environmental & Sustainability ManagementMonitor environmental aspects and compliance obligations.Develop and track environmental, sustainability, and energy objectives.Support initiatives related to environmental impact reduction, including energy efficiency and emissions reduction.Reporting, Training & Budget ManagementDevelop KPIs, analyze trends, and report HSE performance metrics.Prepare and deliver weekly and monthly safety briefings.Identify training needs and deliver or coordinate internal and third-party training.Manage the HSE budget and oversee project-based initiativesRequirements:Demonstrated experience in a Health & Safety role with strong OH&S expertise.Occupational Health & Safety diploma or certificate (preferred).Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, or eligible for.Exemplar Global certified or equivalent ISO 14001:2015 and/or 45001:2018 Requirements and Management Systems Auditing trainingDegree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Occupational Safety or Health, Safety Engineering, Safety Science, or Environmental Health is preferred. An equivalency of a related two-year diploma plus five years of recent related experience will be considered.Degree or diploma in Science, Applied Science, Engineering or Technology would be an asset.Experience with Alberta OHS legislation, Certificate of Recognition (CoR) Audits, incident investigations, emergency response, and crisis management.ISO certifications (45001; 14001; 9001) will be considered an advantage.Experience with environmental impact reduction and GHG/carbon footprint initiatives is an asset.Experience in a manufacturing environment will be an advantage.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Sound judgment with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.Ability to influence, advise, and partner with leaders and teams.Organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing competing priorities.Clear, confident communicator with strong administrative skills.Effective change leader who thrives both independently and collaboratively.Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada.Ability to obtain a Canadian Class 2 Security clearance.Must have a clean background history and obtain criminal record check.Duke Marine Technical Services Canada Inc. is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
