Job Description

Parsons is looking for an experienced terrestrial biologist to join the Environmental Services Group in Ontario. The role focuses on supporting provincial and municipal clients in developing and improving transportation systems through innovative ecological solutions. Key Responsibilities Performs a variety of field and office tasks requiring the application of complex scientific principles and fundamental theories. Undertakes biological field investigations and data collection (e.g., breeding bird and amphibian surveys, bat acoustic surveys, vegetation inventories, tree surveys, wildlife and species-at-risk surveys, ecological land classification assessment, wetland evaluations, and fisheries assessments) following established protocols. Produces highquality technical reports, impact assessments, and ecological reporting. Manages project workloads, scheduling, and coordination. Assists with proposal development, work programs, project budgeting, and invoicing. Provides mentorship to intermediate and junior staff and may manage others. Skills & Qualifications 5+ years of experience in the private sector or consulting. Postsecondary education in environmental science, biology, ecology, forestry, geography, or a related field. Strong organizational and communication skills. Experience with fielddata collection, analysis, and reporting following established protocols. Proficiency in conducting terrestrial inventories and habitat assessments. Accurate identification of Ontario flora and fauna (trees, shrubs, wildflowers, grasses, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, insects). RAQS certification considered an asset or a commitment to obtain it. Experience obtaining permits and approvals under the Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Fisheries Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. Current or past certification as an ISA Certified Arborist or Registered Professional Forester is an asset. Strong knowledge of Ontarios species at risk, including identification, habitat, and life history. Experience completing impact assessments under municipal, provincial, or federal policies or acts. Ability to maintain detailed field notes and photo documentation records. Proficiency in ArcGIS software. Excellent written and oral communications, especially technical report writing.
