Application deadline is April 30, 2026 at 11:59pm MST This is an 8 month contract position Role Overview The Lab Technician will operate within a petroleum-testing lab; including the operation, maintenance and calibration of the lab instruments, record keeping, ordering of supplies and ensuring that any and all tests be performed according to applicable standards. Responsibilities Performs sediment and water analysis and density testing on petroleum samples. Performs other tests including vapor pressure, viscosity, sulfur, GC analysis, and other tests as required. Mixing samples in various sample container sizes manually or with a mixing pump prior to analysis. Maintains and verifies calibration of lab instruments as required. Orders lab supplies as required. Administrative work including data review and entry into LIMS system and customer tickets and engagement with customers via telephone, email and radio. Collects samples in various sample container sizes from trucks, railcars, pipeline and QC buildings. Use of a company vehicle to transport samples around the terminal or to 3rd party labs. Fuel up the lab assigned company vehicle when required. Maintains safe work procedures and a healthy lab environment according to Gibson Safety and Environmental policies. Familiarization with applicable testing standards and manufacturers recommended procedures regarding operation, calibration and maintenance of instruments. Relates to our customers by addressing their concerns about test results. Keeps up to date with changes to testing standards. Recommends replacement and new equipment when necessary. Performs basic housekeeping duties and in the winter months shovelling of snow. Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures. May perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Chemical Technology Diploma or equivalent. 2 years lab testing experience. Degree or diploma from a technical institution in a related field would be an asset. Valid Driver''s License. Familiarity with MS Outlook, Excel, Word. Gas Chromatograph knowledge. Basic understanding of chemistry. Familiarity with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) would be an asset. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements This job is subject to background checks as outlined in Gibson Energys Background Checks policy. The majority of the work is performed in a lab environment with occasional to frequent trips outdoors for sampling in seasonally extreme weather conditions. This position requires physical mobility and ability to perform duties in a confined space and/or in the vicinity of dangerous goods. Employees must wear appropriate PPE as required by the companys safety policies and as required for weather conditions. This job is subject to pre-employment Drug & Alcohol testing as outlined in Gibson Energys Drug & Alcohol policy. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces as well as climb ladders and stairs. Standing and/or sitting for long periods. Occasional to frequent bending and twisting is required, as is prolonged neck positioning. Some crouching, squatting, kneeling.
