Overview Reporting to the Senior Director, Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Advisor plays a key role in supporting communications and marketing for programs designed to enhance the visibility of Alberta Municipalities, its strategic priorities, business services, and sustainability programs. Additionally, this role supports the development and execution of internal corporate communications. The role works in close collaboration with program staff to support the: Creation of compelling content; Creation and distribution of internal and external marketing and communication materials; Management of marketing channels; and Co-ordination of outreach events. A strong understanding of marketing and collaboration is required to engage internal stakeholders in the development, launch, and ongoing delivery of programs, tools, and resources. The incumbent will possess strong marketing skills with a marketing degree, or a marketing diploma plus a minimum 5 years experience, and some understanding of operations within Albertas municipal governments. Know-How Practical / Technical Knowledge Post-secondary education in marketing, or any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job. 2 - 5 years of experience developing content for marketing and communications strategies in the provincial or municipal government(s), or related not-for-profit sector is preferred. Demonstrated experience in developing persuasive and engaging content (e.g., website content, blogs, videos, social media posts), taking technical information and simplifying it for general consumption. Demonstrated experience with supporting the creation of media, including print, digital, video, and radio. Demonstrated experience in website content development. Understanding of how to identify and manage stakeholders. Knowledge of principles of project management. Proficiency in website content management systems, social media monitoring & publishing, Adobe Suite, Microsoft 365 and email marketing tools (e.g. Mail Chimp). Savvy with marketing channels, such as, but not limited to, social media and digital marketing tactics. Demonstrated fluency in using standard office software packages (MS Office: SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Planning, Organizing, and Integrating Team-oriented, hands-on, highly skilled, adaptive, and client-focused. Knowledge of existing Alberta Municipalities programs & strategic priorities as well as other local, provincial, and federal programs related to municipalities. Strong time management skills to handle multiple priorities and various program projects. Ability to exercise independent judgment, set priorities and make decisions in a fast paced and complex working environment. Responsibilities Collaborate with staff to develop and deploy engaging, thoughtful, and shareable content and events that drives participation in Alberta Municipalities programs & services. Draft and create content for: website, social media, marketing collateral, presentation slide decks, speeches, talking points, fact sheets, articles, blog posts, program guidebooks, success stories, newsletters, advertisements, surveys, media releases, trade shows, etc. Draft, compile, edit, and execute letters, presentations, reports, media releases, and other communications and information as required. Ensure that all brand communication elements are consistent and accurate, and are reflective of the current brand strategy, plan, and communication objectives. Co-ordinate external vendors (creative and web agencies) if required to ensure creative is aligned with messaging and brand. Contribute to the management of all owned-media properties such as websites, social media accounts, newsletters, and conference content, and advise of similar products delivered with partner organizations. In collaboration with staff, plan and co-ordinate workshops, webinars, events, and various creative marketing, education and outreach tasks that build awareness of and inspire participation in Alberta Municipalities programs in cities, towns, villages, summer villages, municipal districts and counties across Alberta. Assist with tracking, monitoring, and reporting performance of communication channels and outreach efforts. Ensure Alberta Municipalities internal stakeholders have the correct information and marketing materials to promote their strategic priorities, programs, & services Support relationships with community partners, external stakeholders, media outlets, and other relevant organizations to co-ordinate efforts, communicate opportunities, and amplify profile.
