Learn more at The Vice President, Finance & Administration serves as Northwestern Polytechnics Chief Financial Officer and is a key member of the Executive Council, reporting directly to the President. This role provides strategic leadership and stewardship of the institutions financial, administrative, and operational resources, ensuring fiscal integrity while enabling the Polytechnic to deliver on its mandate and longterm strategic priorities. As a trusted advisor to the President, Executive Council, and Board of Governors, the Vice President plays a central role in aligning financial planning, risk management, and infrastructure development with institutional objectives. Leading a broad and complex portfolio that includes Financial Services, Information Technology, Facilities, Maintenance, Operations, and ancillary services, the Vice President is accountable for enterprisewide budgeting, financial reporting, capital planning, asset management, and regulatory compliance. The role oversees operational and capital budgets, financial controls, audit processes, enterprise risk management, insurance, and legislative compliance, while ensuring sound stewardship of public resources and longterm financial sustainability. In addition, the Vice President provides leadership for campus infrastructure, information systems, and major capital projects, guiding longrange facilities planning, asset lifecycle management, and technology strategy to support the Polytechnics evolving academic and operational needs. As a senior leader, the Vice President fosters strong working relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders, including government, auditors, industry partners, and regulatory bodies. Key Leadership Accountabilities Leadership Working collaboratively with the Executive and Senior Leadership Team, providing information that supports decisionmaking across the organization. Providing meaningful and accurate data and metrics. Being accountable for the development, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of administrative policies for the Polytechnic. Providing management information and monitoring reports on progress towards strategic goals. Overseeing risk identification, monitoring, and developing mitigation strategies. Providing leadership for financial stewardship through sound controls. Promoting and maintaining partnerships with other PostSecondary Institutions, Advanced Education ministry, Office of the Auditor General, and other government agencies. Ensuring integration of the financial plan with strategic priorities via departmental/divisional plans and alignment of capital and operational plans. Developing and implementing systems and processes to strengthen risk management, including compliance, enterprise risk management, and general insurance administration. Maintaining a legislative compliance matrix and mitigating noncompliance risks. Asset Management Trusted Business Advisor to the Executive Council and, as requested, to the Board of Governors, providing expert guidance on strategic infrastructure. Guiding maintenance of facilities, the Campus Master Plan, and support services. Providing due diligence to ensure prudent stewardship of assets. Integrating financial plans with strategic priorities across operations and capital plans. Incorporating infrastructure lifecycle, facilities condition indices, and renewal plans into longterm capital strategy. Leading the planning of existing land holdings and collaborating with government land inventory systems. Ensuring integration of capital equipment evergreen cycles into longterm plans. Leading the development and implementation of the longterm Capital Plan aligned with the strategic plan. Overseeing capital budgeting and project implementation, ensuring alignment with longterm plans. IT Strategic Planning Oversee IT strategic and operational planning to achieve the Polytechnic''s goals by fostering innovation, setting priorities, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems and services. Guiding the operation of the IT Department, including: Implementation of an information management framework. Fostering a usercentered culture and demonstrated service commitment. Evaluating enterprise system security and backup procedures. Providing technical support services. Improving Management Information Systems. Defining IT security policies and processes. Corporate and Ancillary Services Management Overseeing services to students, staff, and guests while generating income for the operating budget, including the Bookstore, Food Services, and Vending Services. Conducting financial analysis and setting targets. Maintaining best practices in purchasing and asset protection. Ensuring price controls where appropriate. Job Requirements Masters degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or a related discipline; equivalent education and experience may be considered. Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) strongly preferred. Minimum ten years of progressive senior leadership experience in finance, administration, or operations within a complex organization. Experience leading large operating and capital budgets, longrange financial planning, and audited reporting in accordance with public sector accounting standards. Experience leading largescale process improvement, systems implementation, and organizational transformation initiatives. Strong knowledge of ERP systems, especially Agresso Unit4 or Workday, and comfort with reporting platforms. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, and experience with enterprise reporting systems and data analytics. Proven multidisciplinary portfolio management, including finance, IT, facilities, and administrative services. Experience in enterprise risk management, internal controls, policy development, and regulatory compliance. Experience overseeing capital planning, infrastructure development, and asset management.
