CIMA+ continues to grow and expand its Earth and Environment team in Ontario and is seeking an Intermediate/Senior Environmental Planner to support our projects. The successful candidate will join our existing team of biologists, urban planners, engineering professionals, and field technicians who are contributing expertise in policy review, natural environment reporting, project planning, and permitting for a wide variety of projects including energy, transportation, and land development for both public and private clients. The scope of this role includes navigating federal and provincial environmental regulatory processes, providing strategic input to client teams on project design, policy review and implementation, and preparing or managing the preparation of information related to potential environmental effects of projects in Ontario. In addition, this role will support strengthening our relationships with existing clients by working collaboratively on project teams, mentoring young professionals, developing or delivering environmental training, and proposing new and innovative ways to better meet our clients needs. Applicants must be knowledgeable of relevant environmental standards, policies, practices and procedures, and have the ability to exercise independent judgment in analysis and problem solving for highly complex, multi-disciplinary, and large scope projects. This role offers the opportunity to participate in our hybrid work model, which includes flexible hours, remote work options, and access to our offices located across Ontario - Ottawa, Gatineau, or southern Ontario, including Kitchener, Guelph, Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto, and Bowmanville. It involves both office-based responsibilities as well as occasional travel and on-site client meetings. Office work will include policy reviews, providing strategic advice, preparing proposals and reports as well as defining the teams overall environmental approach on major projects. Demonstrated expertise in supporting large highway and infrastructure projects, building development, electricity transmission and distribution networks, renewable energy, and other municipal infrastructure. This role offers room for professional growth and advancement, including opportunities to develop project and team management skills. Primary Responsibilities : Strategically advising project teams on internal recommendation documents, including overall environmental strategy. Work with clients to find practical solutions that minimizes impacts to the natural environment while meeting project goals. Review projects under applicable municipal, provincial, and federal legislation in Ontario. Complete and/or review requests for authorizations and permits. Prepare and/or provide senior review of environmental impact evaluation statements, design ecological studies, and author other technical documents. Develop and/or review appropriate avoidance and mitigation measures. Ensure that project work is consistent with CIMAs Earth & Environment processes. Qualifications Minimum of 8 years of experience focused on environmental planning, preferably in a consulting environment. Degree or diploma, preferably at the graduate level, in Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, or related disciplines or additional years experience. Ministry of Transportation (MTO) experience. Strong knowledge of relevant municipal, provincial, and federal legislation and policies in Ontario. Experience working with environmental regulators and multidisciplinary teams on complex multi-year projects. Experience predicting, defining, and managing the environmental risks of large-scale capital projects and programs. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problemsolving skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Project management courses and certification will be considered a strong asset.
