Reporting to the Director, Reliability and Operations, the Manager of Technical Services - Electrical develops and supports a team-based approach to deliver first-rate facilities operations and support services to the Sheridan community. He/she leads and manages a diverse team of technically talented individuals/trades, external contractors, staff and students in support of campus sites, buildings, facilities, infrastructure, systems and a broad range of college services. The Manager leads capital/operational/support and refurbishment projects of existing facilities and systems in response to changing College needs, ongoing customer requirements and requests for enhanced services. He/she researches leading-edge technology innovations in building design, building automation systems, sustainable energy and waste management strategies. The incumbent prepares, develops and is responsible for administering the Facilities Operations operational budget and works with Facilities customers to determine specific needs and develop estimates for capital/operational/support and refurbishment projects. The Manager fosters an environment of teamwork, trust, collaboration and cooperation where ideas and concepts are engaged freely, openly and often, in a collegial way. What Youll Be Doing Providing leadership across operations, planning, and support services for campus facilities and infrastructure. Managing a diverse team of staff, trades, contractors, and students to deliver services across multiple locations. Developing strategies and programs to address operational challenges and support institutional needs. Preparing technical specifications and documentation for public tenders, ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and organizational priorities such as accessibility and sustainability. Maintaining key stakeholder relationships and oversees space data management systems. Leading various teams and contractors in delivering capital, operational, and facility renovation projects across a large portfolio. Overseeing energy management initiatives, including performance tracking, KPI development, and implementation of efficiency strategies. Analyzing operational practices and building systems to identify optimization opportunities and support sustainability goals. Managing projects end-to-endfrom concept and planning through execution and closeoutensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and organizational standards. Coordinating stakeholders, consultants, and contractors while maintaining compliance with infrastructure requirements and driving integration of innovative technologies in building design and operations. Participating and contributing as a team member in the development of operating, capital and renovation budgets for the Facilities Services department. Consulting with Facilities customers to develop capital and operational project costs for submission/approval at the College level or for submission/approval at the Government/legislative levels. Responsible for ensuring projects are achieved within established budgets. Working with Facilities customers to determine specific needs and developing estimates for capital and operational project costs. Leading staff development, training, and recruitment initiatives to build a high-performing and collaborative team environment. Mentoring employees at all levels, with a focus on onboarding and developing early-career staff. Implementing tools and systems (e.g., CRM service platforms) to improve workflow management and service delivery. Overseeing role definition and classification, identifies staffing gaps, and drives workforce planning through hiring and cross-training strategies to support current operations and future organizational needs. Performing other duties as assigned or directed. About You You have highly developed, innovative leadership experience, including a successful track record in change leadership and service excellence. You have experience and ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously. You utilize change management principles, processes, and tools to drive behavioural, financial and operational results and you make communication a priority for change initiatives. You utilize data analytics to better understand stakeholder needs and understand budget development and management. You have a comprehensive understanding of bid and tendering processes related to maintenance and capital improvements. You have a successful track record in reliability and continuously improving facilities operations and maintenance to be customer focused and in driving service excellence. You have superior customer service orientation, are a visionary and have thought leadership and creative problem-solving ability to positively challenge the status quo. Qualifications 4-year bachelors degree (3-year diploma/degree + either a post grad. certificate and some professional certifications) in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 8-years in-depth experience as a senior practitioner & sound management experience (Equivalency to be considered). Must have experience with Project Management and planning tools. Must have experience with Building/Environmental Management Systems. Budget development and control. Must have in-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) and personal protective equipment (PPE). First person experience managing facilities operations. Knowledge and experience in building trades and the respective engineering disciplines. Understanding of building automation systems. Exposure to sustainability initiatives for waste management and energy conservation. Experience with PeopleSoft Financials and CRM applications is an asset.
