Real-Time Computing Systems Engineer (Hardware) Location: Pickering, ON, CA, L1W 3J2 Status: Contract (Up to 20 Months with possibility of extension) Working Conditions: Hybrid Education Level: 4-year Bachelors degree in Engineering Base Location: Pickering ON Shift: Days Travel: 10% Deadline to Apply: May 1, 2026 Salary Range: $1,704.68 - $2,658.86 Per Week Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Technical Engineer/Officer. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this position is responsible for developing and maintaining computer hardware and software programs and monitor system performance. Key Accountabilities - Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC) Hardware Engineering: Manage, implement, and enhance Real-Time Process Computing (RTPC) to ensure reliable and efficient system performance. - Preparation of Design Documentation: Prepare comprehensive computer hardware design documents, detailed work plans for installation, and Engineering Change packages to support system updates and improvements. - Lab-Based Computing Work: Perform development, testing, and troubleshooting in a computer lab environment, ensuring accurate design and validation of developed solutions. - Understanding of digital logic, computer architecture, digital electronics, computer buses, and basic operating system concepts. Determine system and modification requirements and author required documents including traceability matrices. - Develop and execute computer hardware and software test plans. Provide test results in a report-based format. - Develop and update computing system documentation, such as design manuals, operating procedures, maintenance procedures, diagnostics, system requirements, design descriptions, etc. Qualifications - 4-year Bachelors degree in engineering is required; background in computer, software or electrical engineering is an asset. - Minimum 2 years experience with OPG Engineering Change Control (ECC) process and Design Team Leader (DTL) role and experience in computer systems engineering. - Experience using AssetSuite (AS9) engineering change panels, online wiring, power supply lists and change paper markups. - Ability to provide technical oversight on DAO (data acquisition), SCADA, industrial human-machine interface displays and PLC software, hardware systems. - Experience in computer hardware component design and integration. - Experience with developing and/or executing test plans for large custom computer related systems. - Proficiency in preparing technical requirements and documentation such as requirement documents, technical specifications, and design change packages. - Ability to provide computing technical expertise and oversight to large computer multidiscipline projects. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ability to work as a team player. - Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the Province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario. The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package.
