Purpose As a Lead Piping Designer, you will provide technical and design leadership for piping design activities across small to large-sized projects and work packages. You will be accountable for the quality, consistency, and timely delivery of piping design deliverables, while working closely with Piping Engineers, other discipline designers, project leadership, and clients. The Lead Piping Designer role balances strong handson piping design expertise with daytoday leadership, mentoring, and coordination of a small design team. The Lead Piping Designer is a key contributor to safe, constructible, and costeffective piping designs in support of multidisciplinary engineering projects across the energy, chemicals, mining, and infrastructure sectors. Key Responsibilities Technical & Design Leadership - Piping layouts and routing plans - 3D model development and coordination - Isometric drawings and piping plans - Plot plans and equipment layouts - Pipe support concepts and layouts (in coordination with stress/support teams) Provide technical guidance and oversight to Piping Designers and Design Technologists. Review and check piping design deliverables for quality, constructability, and compliance with project standards, specifications, and applicable codes. Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, CSA, client standards, and project-specific requirements). Support Piping Engineers with the interpretation and implementation of engineering requirements into detailed design drawings and 3D models. Lead a small team of Piping Designers and coordinate daily design activities and priorities. Plan and assign work, monitor progress against schedule and budget, and proactively identify and resolve resourcing or delivery risks. Act as the primary piping design point of contact on assigned projects or work packages. Participate in project planning, design reviews, model reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings. Interface with construction, procurement, and commissioning teams to support constructability and execution planning. Coordinate closely with other discipline leads and designers (process, mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation) to ensure integrated, clashfree designs. Support 3D model coordination, clash detection, and interdisciplinary design reviews. Incorporate client feedback and manage design changes in accordance with project change management processes. Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement Promote a strong safety culture in design, including consideration of safe access, operability, maintainability, and constructability. Support continuous improvement of piping design standards, tools, templates, and workflows. - Contribute to the development and mentoring of junior designers through coaching and technical guidance. Qualifications & Experience Education & Training Diploma or degree in Engineering Design, Mechanical/Piping Technology, or a related discipline. Experience Extensive experience in piping design within engineering, EPC/EPCM, or industrial project environments. Demonstrated experience leading small to mediumsized piping design teams or acting as a discipline design lead on projects. Strong experience delivering piping design for industrial facilities such as oil & gas, chemicals, mining, power, or infrastructure projects. Technical Skills Proficiency with industrystandard piping design tools and platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, SmartPlant 3D, AVEVA E3D, PDMS, Revit, or similar 3D design tools). Strong understanding of piping layout, routing, constructability, and modelbased design. Familiarity with applicable piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31 series, CSA, client standards). Strong ability to interpret P&IDs, piping specifications, equipment datasheets, stress inputs, and vendor drawings. Leadership & Interpersonal Skills Proven ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate the work of designers within a project environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and with project leadership and clients. Wellorganized, proactive, and capable of managing competing priorities in a fastpaced, deadlinedriven project environment.
