About the Role This is a primarily hands-on, bench-level role. Approximately 80% of your time will be spent on the shop floor performing gauge assembly and calibration work. If you thrive doing precise, practical instrumentation work every day, this role is for you. Winters Instruments is looking for a skilled and experienced Lead Technician to join our Edmonton team. You will be the technical backbone of our local operation, calibrating, assembling, and repairing pressure and temperature instruments to exacting standards, while providing day-to-day guidance to the Production and Warehouse teams. Occasional administrative, documentation, and cross-team support tasks make up the remainder of the role. Key Responsibilities - Calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and repair pressure and temperature instruments (mechanical & analog) using reference standards and manufacturer specifications. - Perform light assembly, soldering, brazing, and diaphragm seal work. - Read blueprints, manuals, and schematics to assemble, verify, and resolve technical issues. - Maintain accurate calibration records, production logs, and quality documentation. - Develop and manage calibration schedules to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ABSA Quality requirements and industry standards. - Troubleshoot discrepancies, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. - Maintain calibration equipment and perform preventative maintenance. - Provide technical guidance to team members and collaborate across all departments. - Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment. Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation) - Manual dexterity for precise work; frequent standing, walking, bending, and tool use. - Visual acuity for reading measurements and detailed tasks. - Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs and work in a shop environment with occasional heat exposure. Qualifications - Technical Diploma or Journeyman certificate in Instrumentation, Metrology, or related field (3rd/4th year apprentices considered). - Minimum 23 years of hands-on calibration and instrumentation experience with pressure and temperature devices. - Knowledge of metrology principles, ISO 9001, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, soldering, and brazing. - Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. - Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and English communication skills (verbal & written). - Preferable: Demonstrated leadership and team management skills with the ability to guide, mentor, and coordinate calibration activities. - Preferable: Welding knowledge and obtained certificate.
