Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job The General Carpenter supports residential and infrastructure construction projects in the remote community of Klemtu, British Columbia, performing carpentry and related construction tasks in accordance with established safety and quality standards. The role may be performed under supervision and may include progressive skill development in alignment with apprenticeship and Red Seal certification requirements, where applicable. Location: Klemtu, BC Wage: $35 per hour Living Out Allowance (LOA): $55 per day LOA will increase to $65 per day upon successful completion of a 3-month probationary period. A wage review will be conducted after 3 months of employment. Duties and Responsibilities: - Perform carpentry tasks under the direction of a Journeyperson or Lead Hand. - Assist with layout, measuring, cutting, assembly, and installation of materials. - Apply carpentry techniques aligned with apprenticeship training levels. - Read and interpret basic drawings and instructions. - Safely use hand and power tools in accordance with training and safety guidelines. - Maintain job site cleanliness, organization, and safety standards. - Follow all workplace health and safety regulations and PPE requirements. - Actively participate in apprenticeship training and skills development. - Perform other duties as assigned by the Construction Manager. Qualifications: - Registered carpenter apprentice or minimum 24 years of carpentry experience or with intent to pursue Red Seal certification. - Framing and renovation carpentry experience considered an asset. - Concrete finishing experience considered an asset. - Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions. - Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to quality workmanship. - Must supply own hand tools and required PPE. - Ability to work in a remote location and coastal weather conditions. - Zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol while on shift. - Basic understanding of carpentry tools, materials, and construction practices. - Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team. - Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to learning. - Valid drivers license is considered an asset. Working Conditions: - Primary work location is Klemtu, British Columbia. - Work is performed primarily on active construction sites, with regular exposure to weather, noise, dust, and other physical hazards. - Strict compliance with all occupational health and safety requirements is mandatory, and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times while on site. - Projects include residential housing construction and renovation, with the potential for larger infrastructure or capital projects. - Standard work schedule consists of 10-hour shifts on a rotational basis of fourteen (14) days on and fourteen (14) days off. - Work hours may vary based on project requirements and may include evenings, weekends, or extended hours. - Compensation is provided on a blended wage rate basis, and overtime pay does not apply under this structure. - Meals are provided during scheduled work periods. - Accommodation is provided in a bunkhouse setting, including private bedrooms with shared bathrooms and common living areas. - Employee benefits are available following the successful completion of a ninety (90) day probationary period, in accordance with the Employers benefits policy.
