Job Title: Construction Field Technician Start Date: July 1, 2026 (target) Contract Duration: 12 months (initial) Shift: 8 days on / 6 days off - Wednesday to Wednesday rotation - 12-hour days (WedTues), 8 hours on final Wednesday - Work Location: Multiple Oilsands project sites within AB, travel provided by client with travel hub options from either Calgary or Edmonton Position Overview Our Oil and Gas client is looking for Contract Field Technicians to serve as a key interface between the Construction Management Team, construction and commissioning contractors, and the Engineering contractor. This role ensures alignment with company standards, contract expectations, and project execution requirements while supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery. Field Technicians are expected to understand and uphold company policies, procedures, specifications, and safety standards while actively contributing to construction and commissioning activities. Key Responsibilities Safety & Compliance - Participate in and support safety initiatives and adherence to the Safety Management System - Conduct and contribute to field hazard and risk assessments - Promote a strong safety culture through active participation in toolbox and safety meetings Project Execution & Coordination - Participate in project execution planning (design reviews, model reviews, CWP reviews) - Support coordination between Construction, Engineering, and Project Management teams - Maintain ongoing communication with internal and external stakeholders Contract & Performance Management - Develop field requisitions in collaboration with Supply Chain, Construction, and Project teams - Support technical bid evaluations and contractor selection processes - Verify contractor compliance with contractual, technical, and engineering requirements - Develop and maintain quantity/performance verification tools Technical Support & Issue Resolution - Review and recommend solutions for technical issues - Process and communicate RFIs, RFCs, FCNs, and contractor clarifications - Support resolution of material shortages, discrepancies, and field issues - Ensure adherence to specifications and standards Risk Management - Identify and communicate risks related to safety, quality, cost, schedule, and contractor performance - Support ongoing risk mitigation and resolution strategies Closeout & Continuous Improvement - Participate in contractor closeouts and lessons learned sessions - Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices Core Competencies - Administration & document management - Technical writing and document production - Interpretation of engineering drawings and plans - Systems evaluation and analytical thinking - Risk assessment and cost-benefit analysis - Coordination and planning - Complex problem solving - Professional judgment and decision-making - Strong attention to detail Qualifications & Requirements - Minimum 5 years of construction experience on projects exceeding $10MM annually - Experience in mechanical services or construction industry - Strong understanding of construction and change management principles - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) - Field experience considered an asset - Valid Class 5 drivers license - Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing Work Environment This role is site-based at various Oilsands locations. Candidates must be flexible and willing to travel or relocate between project sites as required.
