We are looking for a Custom Automation Estimator / Applications Engineer to play a pivotal role in translating complex customer needs into tangible, cost-effective proposals. This position is crucial for our growth, ensuring we continue to provide cutting-edge solutions tailored to unique industrial challenges. Key Responsibilities: - Review customer RFQs, specifications, and concepts for custom automated equipment to deeply understand project scope. - Develop detailed, accurate cost estimates encompassing mechanical, electrical, controls, assembly, and integration aspects of machine builds. - Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design, and shop teams to ensure technical feasibility and optimal scope definition. - Prepare compelling quotations, comprehensive proposals, and all necessary supporting documentation. - Proactively identify potential risks, critical assumptions, and key technical considerations for each unique project. - Propose innovative design approaches and robust solutions that balance cost efficiency with peak performance. - Engage directly with customers to clarify requirements, present solutions, and foster strong relationships. - Maintain and enhance estimating tools, templates, and costing databases for continuous improvement. Requirements & Qualifications: - Proven background in custom machine building and/or advanced automation systems. - Solid experience with mechanical design, system layout, or comprehensive machine integration. - Exceptional ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, conceptual designs, and detailed technical specifications. - Strong understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, motion systems, robotics (preferred), and PLC-based electrical and controls automation systems. - Demonstrated experience in cost estimating, quoting, or applications engineering. - Proficiency with CAD tools, such as SolidWorks, is a valuable asset. - Excellent analytical, organizational, and clear communication skills. - A practical, hands-on mindset with real-world machine build experience. - Adept at balancing technical accuracy with commercial awareness and business acumen. - Superior problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities.
