Associate Director, Execution, National Accounts Location: Scotia Plaza, Toronto, ON Purpose: Contributes to the overall success of the National Accounts Team in Canadian Commercial Banking, ensuring individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed to support the teams business strategies and objectives, while ensuring all activities comply with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Accountabilities: - Lead and drive a customerfocused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. - Champion a customerfocused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. - Contribute to the profitable development of Canadian Commercial Banking by: - Participating in timely analysis, structuring, and preparation of credit/financial solutions proposals for a dedicated portfolio of connections, gathering, analyzing, and consolidating large volumes of information into credit applications for adjudication under direction. - Ensuring timely analysis, structure, and presentation of credit/financial solutions within the defined market area. - Providing prompt and sound recommendations in the analysis and adjudication of credit proposals. - Ensuring writings to directors and origination clearly convey decision rationale so they may respond effectively to clients. - Recommending pricing for loans and creditrelated fees that yield a return commensurate with risk and consider profit, administration, and competitive factors. - Recommending alternative terms, conditions, and covenants to provide a viable banking proposal within sound credit lending practices. - Restructuring marginal proposals into bankable deals where possible. - Providing guidance, coaching, and counsel to directors and origination to better serve client needs. - Ensure accurate communication of the terms and conditions of an authorization, contributing to effective and timely implementation by: - Reviewing all written credit authorizations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and clarity. - Ensuring prompt followup for acceptance of the authorization and responding swiftly to any problems, amendments, or extensions, and reporting to senior management when necessary. - Vetting security documentation required to close loan transactions and addressing issues surrounding documentation adequacy, quality, and completeness. - Conducting detailed evaluations of all information received for closing conditions, and reporting deficiencies or findings to senior management. - Liaise with Directors in Origination and Execution to ensure any required changes and followup for accurate execution and delivery of authorizations prior to disbursement of funds. - Ensure the ongoing quality of the assigned credit portfolio through control and administration of specific conditions and reporting requirements, including: - Conducting detailed evaluations of all information received, reporting deficiencies or negative findings to senior management. - Ensuring early identification of problem loans and accurate risk ratings by reviewing industry and economic trends. - Adhering to regulatory and internal bank policies and requirements. - Advising senior management of developing credit weaknesses in individual accounts through ongoing awareness and analysis of relevant financial, legal, political, technical, and industry information. - Provide coaching and counselling to Senior Client Service Associates by: - Developing credit competencies related to assigned accounts. - Providing timely performance feedback on credit analysis presented for review. - Champion and support a culture of diversity and other initiatives aligned with the bank strategy. - Understand how the banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daytoday activities and decisions. - Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of the respective area, ensuring adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of daytoday business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk under relevant frameworks and handbooks. - Champion a highperformance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment. Reporting Relationships: Director & Head, National Accounts, Canadian Commercial Banking or Director, Execution, National Accounts, Canadian Commercial Banking. Dimensions: - Clients are serviced in Canada, primarily the same region, with operations across the country and international locations. - Clients are in the National Accounts segment, both borrowing (>$25MM) and nonborrowing (typically deposits >$50MM). Borrowing clients have moderate to higher complexity financial solutions, and typically have sales >$75MM. - Interact primarily with Directors in Execution and Origination and various internal partners including Global Risk Management, Shared Services, Global Business Payments, Payment Cash Management, Leasing, Global Banking Markets, Wealth Management, and the Canadian Commercial Banking Executive Office. - Interact with client CFOs and controllers, building and maintaining internal relationships with key contacts. - Interact with external parties such as solicitors, accountants, professional service providers, and other banks. - Continuously work with clients providing service consistent with Scotia Service Standards, Complaint Resolution Standards, and procedures, and look for opportunities to promote the sale of bank products and services. - Fastpaced environment that may require priorities to be readjusted to accommodate urgent requests. Education: - University degree with a business background; MBA or professional designation preferred. - Commitment to participate in continual learning programs. Skills & Experience: - At least 2years of commercial or corporate banking experience; familiarity with loan syndication and global capital markets. - Indepth knowledge of the banks lending policies, practices, and procedures, and awareness of business trends, economic, technological, social, legal, and political conditions that could affect credit viability. - Solid knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles and policies. - Strong risk assessment and credit skills, and ability to structure deals. - Strong understanding of complex loan documentation. - Strong knowledge of Canadas financial services marketplace and the assigned market areas key industries, major customers, and competitive positioning. - Solid understanding of Canadian Commercial Banking objectives, strategies, and structures. - Tactical planning, implementation, and management skills. - Strong sales management, coaching, relationship building, and leadership skills; ability to influence and motivate others. - Positive example of change and encouragement of others. - Strong interpersonal skills for business development/customer relationship building and team environment facilitation. - Effective articulation of views to all levels within the bank and externally. - Personal computer skills and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet software, and planning tools. - Good knowledge of commercial banking products and services, systems, routines, and operating procedures. - Knowledge of banks business lending and deposit products, customer profitability model. - Knowledge of competitor offerings and alternative financing sources. - Knowledge of products and services provided by the banks specialized sales forces and other delivery channels (Global Banking & Markets, Global Transaction Banking, Global Wealth Management, Retail & Small Commercial Banking, etc.). - Knowledge of interviewing, solicitation, and business development techniques. - Knowledge of all commercial management platforms. - Working knowledge of services provided by support areas such as Shared Services Business Support Centre.
