Position Title: Occupational Health Nurse Lead Location: Pickering, ON, CA Operating Sector: Safety What is the Opportunity? CanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RFBR) of Units 58. Building on the successful delivery of the Darlington Refurbishment Project, the CanAtom team brings proven experience in safely executing complex nuclear projects on time and on budget to support Ontarios clean energy future. Reporting to the Director, EHS, of OPG Refurbishment Projects, the Occupational Nurse Lead will maintain a team of 2 dayshift and 2 night shift nurses, advise RFBR and TGR line supervisors on various medical, occupational health and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) queries and issues. The position is intended to assist in providing as much care at the site as is reasonably possible. What You'll Do Here: - Ensure compliance with all applicable health regulations, standards, and best practices. Maintain, secure, and continuously improve occupational health records, equipment, and programs in accordance with regulatory and confidentiality requirements. - Provide on-site first aid services to joint venture personnel in coordination with the clients site emergency response organization. Assess, evaluate, and treat injuries and illnesses promptly and professionally, within scope of practice and in accordance with clinical nursing guidelines and site procedures. - Conduct post-injury and post-illness follow-up with affected personnel to support recovery, ensure appropriate care, and identify the need for further medical evaluation or accommodations. - Maintain accurate and complete treatment records and first aid logs in compliance with company policy and legislative requirements. - Manage and maintain first aid rooms, cabinets, kits, and response bags, ensuring supplies are stocked, inspected, and compliant with regulatory standards. - Track, monitor, and maintain documentation related to modified or restricted duty cases, ensuring consistency with medical recommendations and organizational requirements. - Develop and support early and safe return-to-work plans in collaboration with the EHS department, supervisors, and management, ensuring suitable accommodations and clear communication. - Promote employee wellness through health education and the coordination of wellness initiatives and clinics for joint venture personnel, such as flu vaccinations, COVID testing, and health screening programs. - Liaise with internal claims management teams, WSIB, and external healthcare providers regarding workplace injury or illness claims, supporting effective case management and timely resolution. - Perform other related duties as assigned to support occupational health, safety, and site operational objectives. What You Bring to the Table: - Minimum qualification as a Registered Practical Nurse in the province of Ontario required. - Knowledge of WSIB legislation and process considered an asset. - Basic understanding of regulations applicable to occupational and environmental health and safety. - Occupational nursing accreditation or direct construction site experience preferred. - Valid and up-to-date First Aid and CPR certification required. - Previous acute care nursing experience preferred. - Ability to manage cases with a view to providing site-based treatment whenever possible. - Experience in nuclear considered an asset. - Detail oriented and ability to multitask. - Excellent interpersonal skills. - OPG Security Clearance would be considered an asset. - This position requires the successful candidate to be in the field observing work, requiring the ability to walk more than 3 km per day, climb a minimum of 3 flights of stairs and occasionally climb ladders. - This role requires flexibility to support project demands, including shift work, extended hours, and occasional weekend or night work throughout the duration of the project. - This role requires the successful candidate to work within a nuclear environment.
