Job Description

Our client on the East Coast is looking for a Welding Engineer to join their expansive ship building team. This person will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and continuous advancement of welding operations across ship repair and production projects. This position will lead weld development initiatives, support testing and qualification activities, and provide hands-on technical guidance on the shop floor. Responsibilities Develop and qualify welding procedures by planning, testing, and validating processes to meet engineering, regulatory, and quality standards. Prepare and maintain technical welding documentation while providing expert guidance to production, engineering, and quality teams. Evaluate and trial new welding equipment and technologies, recommending solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency. Provide on-site technical support by troubleshooting welding issues and advising welders, technicians, and supervisors in real time. Support in-production quality control by reviewing weld quality, assisting with defect resolution, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement welding development plans and support evolving shipbuilding and ship repair requirements. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering/scientific discipline. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation Specialist training in Welding Engineering; Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) recognition considered an asset. Previous experience in Ship Building or relatable Heavy Industry/Manufacturing experience is a must Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and structural/outfit drawings, with strong problem-solving skills and proficiency in MS Office and technical software tools. Pay: $100,000 - 150,000 annually depending on years of experience and P.Eng Qualification or Designation On-site in Halifax, Nova Scotia Please note that the posted pay range for this role may vary based on seniority, qualifications, or prior experience.
