The role of the Senior Physical Hydrogeologist is to apply senior technical expertise, execution, guidance, and oversight in the management and completion of hydrogeology projects. The responsibility of the Senior Physical Hydrogeologist also includes the mentorship and training of junior and intermediate hydrogeologists, as well as participating as a Reviewer for MEMS reports to ensure the quality and delivery of physical hydrogeology services to MEMS clients. Key Responsibilities - Scope and manage hydrogeological studies for environmental assessments or impact assessments for in-situ oil sands, coal mine or other projects including the determination of regional and local hydrogeological setting and baseline groundwater quality assessments. - Proposal preparation including assessing project requirements and client needs, scope definition and risk assessment of the project, and development of an appropriate execution plan. - Mapping and water source assessments, plan water supply investigations, including the design and analysis of pumping tests, sampling program and groundwater isotope studies. - Design and manage operational groundwater monitoring programs and report preparation. - Mentoring and career development of hydrogeology project staff. - Senior hydrogeologist supporting complex groundwater assessment and remediation projects and site-specific risk assessments. - Develop numerical groundwater models supporting water source investigation and assessment, contaminant transport problem and remediation designs. - Participation in occasional field assessments including remote areas with difficult terrain and under extreme weather conditions could be required. - Provide input and advice on identifying and acting on opportunities to optimize the delivery of services to clients. - Executing all aspects of the project in accordance with the contract and ensuring quality of processes and deliverables. - Full sign-off authority on physical hydrogeology project deliverables. - Providing project leadership and mentoring of team personnel. Be aware of capacity or competency gaps within the discipline and assist in training and/or recruitment that is required to address. - Developing and maintaining direct contact with clients and stakeholders. - Working with the Marketing & Growth team to support growth and new business in water supply. - Other duties as required. What You Bring - Masters degree or advanced degree in Earth Sciences, Geology or other related degree. - A minimum of 18 years of directly related experience in physical hydrogeology, preferably in consulting environment. - Advanced level understanding and experience with relevant provincial and federal legislation, including the Alberta Water Act, related regulations, directives and guidelines and the environmental impact assessment process, is required. - Knowledge and experience in the execution of hydrogeological studies for environmental assessments or impact assessments for in-situ oilsands, coal mine or other projects including baseline groundwater assessments, mapping and water source assessments, water supply investigations (including the design and analysis of pumping tests), support for numerical groundwater modelling and groundwater isotope studies, design and management of operational groundwater monitoring programs, is required. - Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required. - Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing. - Possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license. This individual may conduct assessments at industrial facilities and or greenfield sites in remote locations. In some cases, the field work may include carrying sampling equipment. - Office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time, as well as field work. - Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens. - Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. - Sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations are required. - Ability to work varying shifts, including the occasional evening and night. - Required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
