About the Role DHL Express Canada seeks a proactive, experienced Sr. Financial Payroll Expert to join our National Office in Brampton. The position supports a complex, unionized workforce governed by the Canada Labour Code (CLC), including hourly, salaried, and owneroperator populations across Canada. The successful candidate will bring strong payroll leadership, deep compliance expertise, and advanced system knowledge of Kronos and ADP. Responsibilities include endtoend payroll oversight, biweekly reconciliation, statutory compliance, payroll reporting, audit readiness, process automation, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Payroll Leadership & Processing Provide formal people leadership to payroll team members, including coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and development planning. Set priorities, allocate work, and monitor quality and timeliness of payroll deliverables. Oversee biweekly payroll processing and reconciliations for hourly employees and owner operators; support salaried payroll as required. Provide leadership and guidance to payroll team and act as the escalation point for complex issues. Ensure payroll activities align with Canada Labour Code (CLC), collective agreements, federal and provincial legislation, and internal governance and control standards. Drive payroll delivery with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and service quality. Reconcile grosstonet results, statutory deductions, employer contributions, and thirdparty payments. Conduct comprehensive prepayment reviews and validations. Maintain complete audit documentation and approval support for each payroll cycle. Payroll Reporting & Statutory Remittances Prepare, validate, and submit payroll remittances and regulatory filings to federal and provincial tax authorities and other statutory boards and agencies, ensuring timely and accurate compliance with all legislative requirements. Ensure timely and accurate remittance of statutory deductions, union dues, garnishments, and thirdparty withholdings. Own monthly, quarterly, and yearend payroll reporting, reconciliations, and variance analysis. Support internal and external audits and partner with Finance, Tax, and Labour Relations to ensure payroll obligations are accurate and auditable. Audit, Controls & Compliance Design and maintain payroll audit and validation controls to ensure ongoing compliance with the CLC, collective agreements, and internal policies. Conduct proactive audits focused on overtime, premiums, retroactive pay, leave entitlements, and deductions. Identify payroll risks and implement corrective and preventative actions. Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement Lead resolution of payroll discrepancies, remittance issues, and complex employee inquiries. Perform rootcause analysis on recurring issues and drive sustainable improvements. Act as process owner for automation and optimization initiatives across ADP Workforce Now, UKG Workforce Dimensions, and related tools. Support payrollrelated system enhancements, legislative changes, and transformation initiatives. Develop and deliver targeted payroll training for supervisors and people managers. Provide guidance on time and attendance, approvals, pay codes, payroll cutoffs, and key CLC considerations. Serve as a payroll subjectmatter expert for supervisor inquiries, updating training materials as processes or systems evolve. Compliance, Data Management & Administration Issue and maintain fuel rates in accordance with collective agreements. Manage daytoday payroll inquiries across all employee groups. Process biweekly Records of Employment (ROEs) and respond to Service Canada and Workers Compensation requests. Maintain payroll data integrity, including new hire setup access in UKG and payroll master data updates in ADP Workforce Now. Qualifications Experience & Certification 57+ years of progressive payroll experience, preferably in a unionized, federally regulated environment. Demonstrated people leadership or senior payroll oversight experience. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification completed or in progress. Technical & Professional Skills Strong proficiency with Kronos and ADP. Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, statutory remittances, and reporting. Experience supporting owneroperator payroll models. Advanced Excel skills for reconciliation, audit, and analysis. Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholdermanagement capabilities.
