Varsity Assistant High School Hockey Coach Job ID: 3596 Position Type Athletics/Activities/ Coaching Qualifications Prior coaching and extensive background in program fundamentals, program development, and positive student-parent relations Previous satisfactory work experience with high school students Ability to promote academics, sportsmanship, and healthy school competition Must pass a criminal history background check Driver''s License Current CPR and First Aid certification Job Goals The Assistant Hockey Coach supports the Head Coach in developing a competitive, student-centered high school hockey program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success. This role contributes to daily practice planning, game preparation, supervision, and the overall positive culture of the team. Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Head Coach in implementing a cohesive vision for the hockey program aligned with district athletic expectations and MHSAA regulations. Teach fundamental and advanced hockey skills, conditioning, and game strategies appropriate for high school athletes. Help plan and run practices; supervise athletes during practices, games, travel, and team events; assist with bench management and in-game adjustments. Maintain a safe environment on and off the ice; ensure proper use of equipment; follow district and MHSAA safety protocols, including concussion and emergency procedures. Model and reinforce sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and academic responsibility; support the social-emotional development of student-athletes. Maintain clear, professional communication with the Head Coach, athletic director, athletes, and families as directed. Assist with equipment inventory, locker room supervision, transportation coordination, and other operational tasks. Support monitoring academic eligibility, attendance, and adherence to district athletic policies and codes of conduct. Participate in required training, certifications, and coaching meetings. Terms of Employment Renewed Annually Based On Winter Sports Season (November - March) Reports to and Annually Evaluated by the District Athletic Director Selection Procedure: By Selection Committee.
