Opportunity Our Venture & Strategy - Emerging Technologies team is currently seeking a Technical Specialist to focus on power and energy solutions technologies, based either in Calgary, AB, or Houston, TX. Reporting to the Manager of Emerging Technologies, you will offer technical expertise and support to internal stakeholders, delivering diligence on novel technologies (including those that are at technology readiness level4-8) and facilitating the evaluation and implementation of power and energy solution technologies for TC Energy assets. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of TC Energys overarching power and energy solutions strategy. What You Will Do Conduct detailed technology evaluation, technical due diligence, and techno-economic assessments across power and energy solution technologies to determine their applicability, readiness level, strategic fit, and value potential for TC Energy, including providing technical expertise to support investment decision making Provide technical expertise and analytical support to business partners independently or in partnership with external consultants, on a range of risks including technical, business and commercial Assist in developing communication material and investment memorandums for internal executive audiences as well as business development activities Maintain signposts and metrics related to emerging technologies to help inform on the trajectory, scale, and pace of lowcarbon power and energy solutions Support the origination and diligence activities of various emerging technologies alongside a crossfunctional team to augment the venture portfolio Provide support to various portfolio companies in advancing piloting and commercial activities across the organization Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in engineering, applied science, or a related discipline 5-10 years of progressive experience within energy, power generation, or related technology fields Proven technical expertise in one or more emerging technologies (Energy storage, gasbased power generation, small nuclear reactors or other baseload power generation) Strong initiative and fast learner that can come up to speed on a problem in an unfamiliar area to start adding value quickly Proven ability to handle ambiguous questions/problems and capable of synthesizing complex information into presentations and written narrative Strong analytical, interpretive, organizational and problemsolving skills Proficient in building PowerPoint and communicating complex ideas in a simple, and concise manner to an executive audience Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree or PhD in Engineering / Physics discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering) Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada and/or a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the United States, in good standing with the applicable regulatory body Operational / field experience related to emerging energy technologies Experience working with startups and venturestage technology developers Familiarity with energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and energy solution strategies Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, supporting corporate and business unit teams, with strong influencing and change management skills Position Requirements Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico) Travel across North America to other company or supplier locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up to 10% of work schedule) Successfully complete preemployment and Criminal background checks (US Candidates) About Our Business We are a leader in North American energy infrastructure, spanning Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
