When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of Sims Square, 390 Brant Street, Burlington, ON. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective September 2027, this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.**Position Overview**In this role, you will lead and manage work-related injury and illness claims, and champion the Early and Safe Return to Work Program to help reduce workplace losses. You will take lead for our Learning Management Systems health and safety content, including the development of engaging eLearning modules. As a health and safety expert, you will also provide senior-level coaching, technical guidance, and support to colleagues and execute all field-level duties of the Advisor Health and Safety role for assigned departments, ensuring health and safety standards are consistently met.**Responsibilities**Specific responsibilities include:* Lead and manage all injury and illness claims, ensuring compliance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act while minimizing lost-time incidents through an effective Early and Safe Return to Work (modified work) program.* Identify complex claims and coordinate with the Consultant Employee Health and Wellness or third parties as needed to support efficient claim management.* Collaborate with assigned departments to conduct job hazard analyses and support the development of safe work procedures, including lockout/energy control procedures, confined space assessments, designated substance assessments, and other controlled documents, ensuring proper document management and control.* Conduct, oversee and/or coordinate technical assessments following industry standards, such as occupational hygiene and ergonomic evaluations, to control exposures and ensure compliance.* Support contractor safety management initiatives across the organization.* Maintain accurate records in incident reporting systems (Parklane Systems) to ensure reliable incident data and reporting.* Investigate workplace incidents to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.* Audit workplaces to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate health and safety standards.* Act as the health and safety subject matter expert for Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC) in assigned departments; audit committees to ensure compliance and effectiveness and support multi-site JHSC ministry orders.* Liaise with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to ensure proper notices and follow-ups are completed.* Regularly scan the regulatory environment for changes that may require action or may impact on the organization. Maintain knowledge of current industry standards; interpret and apply, as appropriate, to support workplace health and safety (CSA, ASME, ANSI, ASHRAE ACGIH, NIOSH, NFPA, MOL and MOH guidelines, CCOHS, etc.)* Manage the Citys health and safety training programs to support regulatory compliance, including content management and assignments in the Learning Management System (Workday), and create eLearning modules using authoring software (Articulate 360).**Requirements**You have post-secondary degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Disability Management, or WSIB Case Management and Adjudication along with four to seven years of occupational health and safety work experience, which includes workers compensation claim management. You also hold the Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation in good standing. Other combinations of education, experience and professional designations or certifications may be considered. You may be required to occasionally respond to emergency situations outside of regular work hours. This role also involves regular visits to work sites, including construction areas, shops, confined spaces and work at height. You must provide your own transportation.We are seeking a senior-level health and safety professional with strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for supporting workplace wellness.
